CASHMAN - THE RICH KID

We all remember them. I'm not saying they are bad kids. I'm not saying that at all. Nope. If you're looking for an "Eat the Rich" Class Warrior...that ain't me, babe. It ain't me you're lookin' for... babe.

No, what I'm making the comparison to is the kid in school that seemed to have it all without being driven or talented enough to earn it on his or her own smoke. I myself went to high school with one kid in particular that had no athletic ability, no hidden talents and grades that would make him a scratch golfer! And despite the shortcomings on all fronts, he was accepted to Princeton (Early Admission). PRINCETON!!! This simpleton went to the Ivy League when he should've been playing catcher in a slow pitch softball beer league!! How? Why? A big bank roll that could buy away problems of ANY type.

Brian Cashman IS that same kid on the Major League level...only unlike my buddy Jimmy in High School, Cashman is an arrogant, analytic jerk off.  There, I said it.

He had the foundation built by MASTERS (Stick Michael and Buck Showalter). He has money to burn and has tossed it on HOUSE FIRES like Pavano, Ellsbury and McCann, etc, etc, etc. 

I believe Brian Cashman is a JOKE of a GM!! Look, Boonie is over his skis too, no question about that, BUT this is Cashman's ass 1st as far as I'm concerned. 

The sad thing is Hal, Randy and Lon seem like they are just corporate stooges in most companies thinking, "F it. I'm rich and will stay that way. Why rock the boat?" I genuinely dislike that cabal of clowns. 

The Boss would not only have canned this collection of company man cowards (Hal too), but he would also have had their houses in Vail torched and they would have all woken up with the heads of their prized stud horses lying next to them under their 1,000,000,000, thread count silk sheets!

Name one baseball move Brian Cashman made on his own that he's been right about. Do it. DO IT.  His "tough guy" talk to Derek Jeter, remember that? He'll do the same to Aaron Judge. He is a mutt. A bank rolled mutt who thinks he's good at his job. 

Remember he was still on the leash when he bought ARod and got the stacked crew for 2009. Cashman is complacent, has no baseball IQ and carries a weakly veiled contempt for the Yankee Fans. Show him the door. I hope he lands in Tampa, and they become doormats again because it'd be Cashman with no checkbook.

The Yankees didn't deserve to beat the ASStros. They didn't hit. They were mismanaged and lifeless aside from rock star Harrison Bader. It's on the players...but Cashman should hang for it. And he should before the Yankees offer Judge his deal. This hobbit has WAY overstayed his welcome. 

The Yankees look and feel like the Yankees of the 80s again. Big Names, CRAZY money and no plan. Get Jeter and Donnie in here to turn this ship around. Sometimes you need to fix a baseball team with actual BASEBALL people and not these video game zeroes holding calculators, spreadsheets...and Daddy's checkbook in case they F it up royally.

Time for change.

IT'S TIME TO CUT THE CRAP AND REBUILD FOR 2023!

WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED?

I can't believe what just happened. I don't want to believe what just happened. I'm literally sick to my stomach. I hate the ASSTROS and I absolutely hate the downward spiral this team has taken. I hate that Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman have these high expectations, but they can't deliver....and they are still here. What happened to accountability?

I think the Yankees need to say goodbye to both Boone and Cashman. It's time. In 2017 Joe Girardi lost the ALCS and didn't come back and was "at odds" with some of the younger players and the Yankees chose to walk away. Boone is supposed to be this great "players manager" and we just saw his players that he is supposed to have a great repour doubt him.

And I've always doubted him. I know I'm not alone and fans may not "count" but when fans and players start criticizing you that says a lot. This team doesn't know how to win with Boone in charge. They don't know NOW, and I don't think they ever will know because I don't think anyone can TEACH Boone how to manage and win and then expect that to translate to the team.... especially if the team no longer includes Aaron Judge who carried the team on his back all season.

The blame doesn't fall only on Boone. He tried to "manage" the team that was given to him and that was constructed by Brian Cashman. A year ago, I said IT'S TIME TO STICK IT TO CASHMAN: 2022 IS "MAKE IT, OR BREAK IT!" and I still feel that way.... now more than ever. Cashman hasn't been able to get the job done and he's had more chances than anyone should. He also has a budget that many small market GMs would drool over, but he hasn't been able to construct a winning team. A winning team doesn't mean the team that spends the most money either, the Dodgers and Mets are proof of that. It's about finding the RIGHT players....and he hasn't done it.

Yet we start fresh every Spring with Cashman and Boone hoping for a different result and it is insanity. I'm tired of it. It's time for new blood.... everywhere. Clean house and let's reconstruct this, but I don't think the Yankees will. They don't think that way. I don't understand their logic at all.

I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of writing about losing. I'm tired of complaining about Boone and Cashman but as long as they are here that seems inevitable. Now I just hope and pray that the Phillies can crush the ASSTROS....and then write about a new manager and GM coming in 2023. I'm not going to hold my breath about that last part.

HELLO, YANKEES— IS ANYONE HOME?

Here's what I have to say. The Houston Astros are not that great, but they have a great manager in Dusty Baker. They have taken advantage of the Yankees' bad decisions, bad offense, bad leadership and overall bad baseball. If I am honest, the Phillies, who are the likely winner of the National League Championship Series, will steam roll right over the Astros as the more dominate team. And if not the Astros, then certainly the Yankees, if they could come back after what has been the most disappointing set of losses in the postseason since 2004. Recall that the Boston Red Sox came back from an 0-3 deficit to beat the Yankees and claim their first World Series since 1918. Yeah, that was bad. This performance is equally bad. 

To hear the words, desperate, outmatched, and lifeless as the unfamiliar TBS analysts frame the Yankees to the postseason audience is embarrassing. I want to call the Stadium and see if someone, anyone can find the Yankee team that started off 2022. That team is clearly not this team. And it does not appear they are coming back.

"Even in the latter half of October, manager Aaron Boone is scrambling to adequately fill in the lineup around Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Anthony Rizzo. In Game 2, he moved Harrison Bader, the club’s hottest hitter, into the leadoff spot and bumped Gleyber Torres, batting .148 in October, to the No. 5 slot. Bader and Torres helped create the Yankees’ runs and opportunities for more, but if anything the shuffle accentuated just how unsettled the bottom half of the lineup remains," reports Yahoo Sports.

Even in front of the media the Yankees don't have a united front—not having each other's back, pointing fingers, and making excuses. The biggest offender is the Yankees' skipper Aaron Boone and guess what he looks like the biggest jackass of them all. Sure, the Yankees look terrible on the field, but Boone makes it worse with bad decisions and even worse excuses. Fans have taken to Twitter to share their disappointment in this Yankee team.

Even with their Ace on the hill Saturday, the Yankees could not back him up with proper defense or God forbid, hits. And this is the game that was supposed to turn things around for the Yankees, well, according to ESPN in their article "4 reasons not to count the Yankees out yet."

"The series starts anew in Game 3. No, you obviously can’t wipe away that the Astros are up 2-0 in the series, but there’s nothing the Yankees can do about that right now. All they can do is focus on what’s next, and the truth is this: Houston just used their best two starting pitchers, and the Yankees are about to use their two best starting pitchers." Doesn't matter how well you pitch. If your team doesn't back you up with offense, you don't win. Ask Jacob deGrom. He knows that story all too well.

The facts are these: the Yankees struck out more than 38 times and only drew five walks in this entire series. Their defense has not done them any favors in the Bronx last night. And they have not had any offense at the DH position nor has their leadoff batter done anything to help them. The Yankees injury-ridden team has been exposed and unless they can somehow wake up and get fired up, this series, and this season is over for them.

DESPERATE TO FALL INTO FAVOR WITH FANS, BOONE MAKES LINEUP TO MAKE FANS HAPPY

 

First off, this isn't real. Duh. Secondly, I was taken by what Boone said tonight when asked about being booed. If you didn't hear it, here is what he said.

Question: When Aaron is booed after a few strikeouts, you got a few boos during the introductions. Is that bothersome or is that just understanding knowing the expectation?

Boone: I mean yeah, I mean, we're trying to win a game so, the American League Championship Series, so you can't get caught up in that.

He was squirming the whole time. Look, booing your team is stupid. I will never understand that. If you want to blast them for lousy management style, listening to commentators and creating your lineup and position players based on what Michael Kay or Bleeding Yankee Blue says... well that just tells everybody that you're no qualified to be there.

Kay's right by the way. I was really hoping our YES Network guys would go after Boone a bit tongiht and Kay did.

But there is no question that right now Boone is a marionette trying to cater to what the fans and analysts want because nothing is working.  But there's more...

Yesterday's lineup was awful.  And when I read it, you could see the desperation.  Rizzo first? Donaldson was still in the lineup and IKF has a higher on base percentage. Now say what you will about IKF, but as a singles hitter, he's like a second lead off in the 9-hole. 

Bader has the energy to be a lead off guy. You wanna move some of the guys around drop Judge down in the order alittle just to take some pressure off.  Rizzo needs to stay where he is because his approach has not changed. Carpenter? 

A great hitter that missed 2 months. But here's the key word... TIMING.  

If you are a major leaguer, you know that missing that much time does not allow you to get into a batter's box and smack home runs as quickly as you want.  What we have seen from Carpenter is a rush job by Boone to get him going, but here's the problem; Live at bats is how you get Carpenter back, but for him? He just can't be part of this post season until he's there.  

And so the irony of Carpenter's entire situation is that he was finally working through it tonight in Game 4, after several strikeouts before that. He finally got a single. If this wasn't the post season it wouldn't be amplified as much as it was, but this is the post season and Boone threw him out there to have him work through LIVE AT BATS IN THE POST SEASON. And oh yeah, Boone crossed his fingers in hopes it would work out. That is no way to manage.

Anyone with a brain in their head knows by the eye test what needs to be done with this lineup.  Looking through matchups on paper has not worked AT ALL SINCE THIS SERIES BEGAN, so throw that away and start over with the gut check. Because at this point? You can't lose.

Our back is against the wall.  We have no choice but to use our gut now. We don't have to look at matchups and spreadsheets and asking Michael Kay for suggestions. Boone just has to let these dude's play, because there is no question Boone's meddling is not allowing these guys to be consistent.

Hey... tomorrow is a new day and when I wake up tomorrow, I was still a huge Yankee fan.  That never dies. So, let's go Yanks... let's go Nestor... keep us alive.

P.S. I'm not in any way picking on Emily Nyman. She was just in my line of fire last night. The fact is we are all Yankee fans, and we all want this team to win.

STRATEGY IS SIMPLE, DON'T STRIKE OUT 30 TIMES

3 Yankee hitting coaches and we can't fix this problem. Pathetic.

We are in the Bronx tonight. Gerrit Cole is on the bump.  The stage is set for us to win. But here's the problem.  Our offense is in the crapper and we don't have explosive innings as we should. Can you blame Boone for that? Not really. I can blame Boone for plenty more, especially when it comes to being in the Yankee manager role and drowning because he has no idea what he's doing. But when it comes to offense, guys not only need to swing the bat, but hit the ball.

"The offense has been a problem throughout the playoffs. Even while beating the Cleveland Guardians in the Division Series, they did so while hitting just .182/.273/.370. They haven’t topped six hits in a single game since the regular season, they struck out 17 times off Justin Verlander in ALCS Game 1, and they didn’t fare much better with Framber Valdez in Game 2 last night.

Of course, it’s easier said than done, but the Yankees won’t be in a position to win the series if they can’t put together good at-bats and if they keep wasting the few chances with runners in scoring position they have. Boone put Bader as lead off. That helps.  But guys like Judge, Rizzo, Stanton are our big boppers and they haven't been consistent. Donaldson seems engaged sometimes and lost in others. The Oswaldo boys are rookies, but that energy can actually help us. And seriously, the only way it does is if they get comfy with being in the playoffs.  If they are, they will perform. I believe that. Meanwhile Boone doesn't know if he wants to even put Peraza in tonight. He's an idiot.

Here's the thing; 30 strikeouts in 2 games means the approach at the plate has to change. They need to adjust in the box, and they need to be smart about what they are swinging at.

I mean, don't you find it weird that we have 3 hitting coaches on the Yankees roster and we have struck out 30 times in 2 games?

FIX IT YANKEES!

BOONE IMPLODING AS HE MAKES EXCUSES FOR YANKEE WOES

The Yankees play baseball outside in the Bronx, all the time. Sometimes they play in a dome. But every day they are playing baseball for 162 games during the regular season.

Now the Yanks have had ups and downs all season. But they won 99 games. That's impressive.  Many of those games were won with good pitches and hitting that scored runs. Sorry to make this so obvious for all you guys, but Aaron Boone is the ultimate joke and last night's presser after their 3-2 loss was ridiculous.

Sports Illustrated writes: 

"Boone lamented the fact that the roof at Minute Maid Park in Houston was open Thursday night during his team’s 3–2 loss, saying that he thought a deep fly ball hit by Aaron Judge would’ve been a home run had the wind not knocked it down.

“Who would have thought, I think the roof open kind of killed us,” Boone told reporters, per SNY. “I think it’s a 390[-foot] ball. … I didn’t think he smoked it like a no-doubter, but it felt like his homers to right.”...

Roof open or closed, the Yankees have labored at the plate through the first two ALCS games. New York batters have struck out in 30 of their 70 plate appearances (42.9%) and tallied just nine hits through two games. "

This statement by Boone is cringeworthy.  He is literally trying to make an excuse for a ball that didn't go out of the stadium that would have in Yankee Stadium.  And what's the point of that? WE WEREN'T IN YANKEE STADIUM. And so... IT'S A CATCH AND OUT!

Boone is doing a disservice to his team. Making excuses is not how these Yankee players operate. And this excuse may take the cake. It just shows Boone's struggles as he has mismanaged and screwed this team over again and again. He is not a leader; he is an excuse maker.

Boone needs to shut up.  Over the past few weeks, we have seen him struggle with the media, try and dodge his managerial mistakes, change lineups and fielding game to game based on the media's suggestions and now blames not playing in a covered roof for our latest loss.

Boone, look in the mirror, it's you and your mistakes that are tanking these Yankees.

Let's please leave Boone in Houston and win the next 2 at home in the Bronx WHERE THERE IS NO ROOF.  It is time to wake the hell up!

THE AARON BOONE COMPARISON THAT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH HYSTERICALLY!

 "Aaron Boone has never been bad at his job."

Are you still with me? Take it all in. I know some of you are still laughing and I don't blame you because I was as I typed this. However, I'm not making this up. SOMEONE out there actually believes Boonie has NEVER been bad at his job.

That's a hot take and you can read it all HERE all thanks to Ian O'Connor of the New York Post. Nice opinion to have right after the Yankees eliminated Cleveland. It's easy to be happy and very agreeable after the Yankees get to continue playing in hopes of getting back to the World Series. It was all roses Tuesday night.

Now it's Thursday and we just lost ALCS Game 1 to the ASSTROS so I'm not feeling so rosey but real talk, even if we WON last night, I wouldn't share O'Connor's opinion. I have never been high on Boonie, I never thought he was the right choice and still don't believe he is a "good" manager either. So here's the next O'Connor tidbit to blow your mind:

"Boone’s regular-season winning percentage of .603 is effectively the same as Joe Torre’s (.605), and he stands with Torre and Casey Stengel as the only managers to reach the postseason in each of their first five years with the Yanks."

STOP! Just stop, O'Connor. Torre and Stengel are Yankee LEGENDS that Boone just can't even compare to. He must've lost his marbles! Stengel won 9 World Series championships in 10 years and the one time the Yankees did not go to the World Series they still won 103 games. Torre managed and molded the Yankees I grew up watching. Both of these brilliant managers won MULTIPLE championships and meanwhile Boonie hasn't even won his first. Stop the comparison's O'Connor, you sound foolish.

So, the bottom line to O'Connor's crazy piece is that Boonie "saved his job" by beating Cleveland in the ALDS. So, beating a team you are "better than" on paper saves your job? The Yankees were expected to beat Cleveland. Why does that save Boonie's job? It's insanity.

Bottom line Mr. O'Connor....Boonie wasn't in danger of losing his job because it was never in jeopardy. The Yankees love him for their own crazy reasons. They are committed. If they weren't sold on him they could've walked away from him at the end of the 2021 season when his contract was up. Instead they gave him a 3-year commitment. Even if Cleveland won, Boonie wasn't going anywhere.

Now tell me Mr. O'Connor....is Boonie going to graduate from "never been bad at his job" to a good manager if we make it back to the World Series? Way to set the bar low.... I have higher expectations then that. I know a lot of other people who do too.

IT'S REDEMPTION TIME AS THE YANKEES HEAD TO HOUSTON

The stage has been set. The field is ready. The walkup music is cued. And just like that, it's Game 1 against the Houston Astros in what will surely be an incredible battle in the American League Championship Series. After rocking some babies in the Bronx against the Guardians, the Yankees move on with a 5-1 victory in a winner takes all ALDS.  Following an abbreviated celebration at the Stadium, Yankees boarded a plane bound for Houston, pumped and ready for redemption at Minute Maid Park tonight, where they have had a storied history since 2017.

As ESPN reports, "New York now faces off against the Astros in a best-of-seven series that starts in Houston on Wednesday when Justin Verlander and Jameson Taillon go head-to-head in Game 1. During the regular season, the Astros and Yankees finished with the two best records in the American League, respectively, while Houston took five of seven games against New York."

In this all hands on deck game, Cortes certainly gave the Yankees early energy, throwing five innings of shutout baseball on short rest. And then it was Giancarlo Stanton who put the Yankees up early with a three-run bomb in the first inning. If they can follow the same formula of striking early, and staying locked and loaded on the hill, the Yankees have more than a chance to redeem themselves and punch their ticket to the World Series. 

In listening in to the post-game interviews, I can't help but be impressed with the laser focus of this team. In particular, one of the newest Yankees Harrison Bader who had a heck of an ALDS with three home runs, speed on the bases and terrific defense in center field, had a lot of positive and mature words for this Yankee team. He told Meredith Marakovits that this team just needs to focus—forget about Verlander, forget about the past, just focus on the present and play good baseball. And Nestor Cortes spoke about the leadership of a quiet guy in the dugout, Giancarlo Stanton. Cortes' simple words about his teammate are below:

From Aaron Judge's fourth home run in a winner-take-all game— the most in MLB history to the absolute stud-like performance of Wandy Peralta in five straight postseason games, the most ever by a pitcher, the Yankees set themselves up for a huge win. Now the momentum of this incredible performance needs to carry them throughout what will surely be a bloody battle against the Astros.

With first pitch set for 7:37 PM EST, The American League Championship Series will provide all of the drama that a good thriller does. The Yankees take on the underdog role, one they embrace as their focus is only on winning against a team that has been their only barrier to the World Series over the last few years. Let's go guys, best the Astros and bring home the American League Championship. Play baseball like you know you can. We believe in you.

ANGER, NESTOR & THE YANKEES DUTY TO WIN GAME 5

Last night sucked.  

We were supposed to play but it never happened. Alot of people are pissed today because many can't take off of work to go to a baseball game. A 4 o'clock game means you really gotta get to the Stadium by 2:30, tailgate, beer up at the Hard Rock, whatever you want to do to get going.  Then you get in, you hopefully see a big win by the Yankees, the celebration and then the prep for the ALCS.  Otherwise, if there's that loss, none of it was worth it.  Alot of pissed off fans and "Fire Boone" and "Fire Cashman" as you leave the Stadium. 

Last night's shitshow was orchestrated by Rob Manfred. The clown of the MLB.  The Yankees were on the same calls with them and Cleveland.

Look, the bottom line is both teams wanted to play and if they waited another 20 minutes, they would have. But we all kind of knew they weren't going to play past 10pm last night. And so, we all gave out hope, but we knew deep down it really wasn't going to happen. 

This idiot Cleveland fan is probably the worst example of fandom you'll ever see.

I loved that @EmSheDoesIt was able to share this on Twitter. I didn't see it until this morning. What a tool this Cleveland guy is.   Don't get me wrong, there are ton of Yankee fan friends that were furious about last night too, but this guy is literally a straight up idiot.

Today, many had to scramble to try and sell off their tickets from last night because we all have to work.  There will be no play for many of us. Instead, we're going to have to watch from our laptops or sneak 101.9 WFAN on their live stream.  We all don't have TVs when we work. Kind of blows.

But look, Yankee fans know this drill. How many times have you been to a game that you knew was going to get rained out. But you continued to eat, you continued to pound beers at the stadium. Why? Because it's there and you love to party, that's why.  Last night was no different. And sure, Yankee fans were pissed that we didn't play, but there is NOT CONSPIRACY THAT CLAIMS THAT MLB CATERED TO THE YANKEES BECAUSE THEY ARE A BIG FRANCHISE TEAM. That's stupid.

And so, we turn the page. Today is Game 5 of the ALDS.  Jameson Taillon was replaced by Nestor Cortes, Gerrit Cole said he'd give Aaron Boone whatever he needs and literally Boone needs to manager this like it's do or die today. Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. 

We need our bats to wake up. This is our house. This is our year, and we need to do damage today.  I'd love to see Judge have a good day. I'd love to see some small ball mixed in with Giancarlo Stanton strength.  And yes, we need our pitching to be stellar!  

There is no question that Francona, a total pro when it comes to this type of series, will navigate his pitching perfectly. He always does. This game will come down to Boone and Francona and neither of them messing their pitching up. If they do, they lose this game. If they don't, they win. It's a blink contest.  

Sadly however, Terry Francona has the experience to absolutely beat the Yanks.

But we're the Bronx today, and so we need to deliver and that comes down to Boone managing perfectly. 

Aaron Boone lost Game 3 on his own the other night.  We had to dig out in Game 4 and did. But now, collectively, this Yankee team, us Yankee fans need to be loud and proud and win today.

Yesterday is yesterday. Today's a new day. Let's bring a win and let's get to the ALCS Yanks... it just makes sense!

HEY NAYLOR - "ROCK THE BABY" TO THAT BIG LOSS!

I gotta say, I love this Cleveland Indians - I mean GUARDIANS team, they fascinate me. They all act like the can talk the talk and walk the walk, but boy does it backfire sometimes.... like last night. I don't care what name is on their jerseys, for me they are the Cleveland Clowns. 

We got our first look earlier this season when clown #1 Myles Straw decided to scale the outfield wall like he was freaking Spiderman thinking he was going to best angry Yankee fans and make them feel small or something. Boy, that didn't work out so well.

Now we have clown #2 Josh Naylor trying to get inside Gerrit Cole's head with his "rock the baby" antics after he hit his solo home run. In case you didn't get a good look at it, check it out.

As he's rounding first base doing his silly little dance he yells "That's my f--cking little son" into the camera. Supposedly, this is normal for nutty Naylor, and he's done it to other players. This Naylor kid is funny, calling himself Cole's daddy. This kid has balls.... he's just not very bright. 

First of .... who the hell is this kid? Seriously, never heard anything about him until last night. Then you go look at his stats and laugh. This is his first season playing over 100 games. He's also got a .253 career average so far, just barely had a career high 20 home run season and had more strikeouts than RBIs. Okay kid.... sure, you win.

Except you didn't win at all. You are a nobody coming back to the Bronx for the last game of the series. You and your buddy Straw man are great circus clowns. I can't wait to hear what fans in Yankee stadium chant at Naylor today.

I lost postseason baseball. I love that Naylor and the Clowns lost last night and Cole pitched a great game. I guess that makes Cole CLEVELAND's daddy. Time to bring it back to the Bronx and finish this!
