WHEN THE BAT HITS THE BALL AND GOES OVER THE WALL, THAT'S A. VOLPE!

Is anyone else as crazy for Anthony Volpe as me? The Yankees sure are; giving proper props to the 21-year-old as he creamed his first career home run on Friday with a jingle sourced from an Italian favorite. "When the bat hits the ball and goes over the wall, that's A. Volpe!" was Tweeted by YES just after the NJ native slammed the ball over the left center field fence. Despite the Yankees mishaps against the Twins in games 1 and 2 at the Stadium, Volpe continues to bring life to this team, making things tolerable despite the mismanagement by Aaron Boone.

MLB tweeted on Saturday, "A dream come true. Welcome to The Show, Anthony Volpe," offering a mini montage of Volpe's road to the Yankees. After hitting his first career home run Volpe couldn't contain his grin as he watched Aaron Judge run the bases after going back to back home runs with him. "“It was a pretty special moment that I got to share with the rest of the guys,” Volpe said after a 4-3 loss to the Twins. “I don’t think it really sunk in until an inning or two later,” reported MLB.com

Longtime Yankee Radio Announcer John Sterling had an authentic Italian call for the rookie shortstop's home run. “Anthony Volpe! A spettacolo oggi! Oh, the fox socks one to left,” Sterling said. “And the Yankees take an immediate 1-0 lead.” “Volpe” means “fox” in Italian, while “A spettacolo oggi” can be translated to “Putting on a show today,” reported the New York Post. I hope he sings the "When the bat hits the ball..." lyric first and then continues with his original call second. Gotta celebrate this kid in any way we can. When he gets on base, he makes things happen.

Yet, unfortunately, the Yankees could not close the deal against the Twins and his home run just became a statistic. This is just another example where the Yankees skipper mismanages this club and makes decisions based on some sort of metric which makes no sense to me and many fans who take to Twitter nightly to call out Boone's bonehead decisions. Like pinch running Aaron Hicks for Giancarlo Stanton when Stanton appears to be perfectly capable of running the bases. He did that two days in a row and three times this week. No idea why.

"While Aaron Boone also lamented a loss that spoiled nice storylines for both Volpe and Cortes, the Yankees manager expects that Volpe -- the club’s top-rated prospect and the No. 3 in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline -- will have many more opportunities to shine in the Bronx," reported MLB.com. Hope so, as long as he keeps the guy in the lineup, continuing to build experience, get reps and spend time with vets like Anthony Rizzo, Giancarlo Stanton and of course Judge.

With the Yankees winning Saturday's bout with the pesty Twins, all appears right in the universe. And perhaps we can all take a collective sigh of relief and celebrate what we have in Volpe and his mentors while we relish the fact that things appear to be gelling for this team, despite Aaron Boone's ridiculous antics which serve no one.
