CLINT FRAZIER IS JUST TOO MUCH FUN!

(Chris Post/for New York Daily News)
Gotta love our newest Yankee farm hand Clint Frazier.  He's not afraid of the Twitter and is out there a lot talking to all sorts of folks.  He's fun to watch out there...

First he's trying to score dates a few months ago... now he's giving hair tips to Nationals Bryce Harper.  Check this out:

JW is Jayson Werth, who looks like Christ on a regular day.  All in good fun here, gotta love it.

Now we here at Bleeding Yankee Blue have interviewed plenty of Yankee minor leaguers over the years.  Ty Hensley, Ian Clarkin, Sean Carley, Dante Bichette Jr, Cito Culver, Tyler Austin, Michael O'Neill and the like. Check them out, I know you have time:

Maybe it's time to reach out to Frazier.  I think the dude would be a lot of fun to chat with, don't you think?

Look for it.  I will personally reach out to this dude, ask him about his time on the Indians, the Yankees and applaud him on having a set of balls, reaching out to whomever he'd like to start up alittle banter.

Love this dude! Hey Clint, let me know if Bleeding Yankee Blue can interview you this offseason. I think it would be great!

KAPRIELIAN IS OFFICIAL

It's officially official.

According to several sources, but we'll use NJ.com on this one, James Kaprielian is now a New York Yankee :

"...Kaprielian received a $2.65 million bonus, Callis said. That's just over the league's $2.543,300 recommendation for a 16th overall selection.  It was the highest pick the Yankees have had in more than 20 years. The Yankees and Kaprielian went down to the wire. The sides had until Friday to get the a deal done...

Kaprielian, 21, is expected to climb through the Yankees' farm system quickly. It's unclear, however, whether he'll pitch this season. He threw 106 2/3 innings for UCLA, posting a 2.03 ERA."

Awesome.  Now it's my job as the head of BYB to do what we have continued to do and that's try to snag an interview with the kid.

We've done it for a while here.  We interviewed Dante Bichette Jr. (Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: DANTE BICHETTE JRl) We interviewed Sean Carley (Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SEAN CARLEY IS EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS), and we interviewed Ty Hensley (Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: TY HENSLEY: YANKEES 1ST ROUND PICK), and of course became very close to the family.   Good kid. Great family.

You gotta support these kids... and you definitely have to continue supporting them as they work their way through the system.  It's a great thing, but as Marci Hensley has said all too often to me, and I'm paraphrasing, it's hard road for these kids to get there and stay there. The support always helps.

So James, congrats.  We want to interview you, big guy.  We want to get into your head and see what your goals are.  You up for it?

BYB 4 YEARS LATER: INSPIRED BY YOU!

There is no other way to describe how I feel emotionally right now. Bleeding Yankee Blue is 4 years old today.  It's a birthday, and everyone reading this right now contributed to getting us here.  Yup, it's unbelievable... it's the most significant accomplishment in my life and so much of it has to do with you!

It started out with me back in September 2010. Then we started the climb... and with the help of my incredible writers and you all checking in on BYB every morning, noon and night, we've been a pretty large following. Bleeding Yankee Blue is now an appointment, and you... the readers, the fans, are the most incredible people in the world.  You guys appreciate our point of view, and you keep us driven.  That's very telling.  That's an audience that cares! That in turn helps put things in perspective for us here at BYB. It's been a pretty powerful journey, huh?

Look, despite the Yankees offensive problems this season, one things for sure, the Yankees will go on like they always have. But BYB is still standing tall. No matter what happens to the Yankees, we still fill our pages with unique perspective and interesting commentary. Dare I say, we even make you laugh and cry. Remember ladies and gentlemen, BYB started as a rant site and developed into something slightly different.
We’re the softer side of Yankee news, yet, we have an edge.  We were the underdog when we started and we’re the ones who kept grinding despite the criticism and nastiness of the other website and of the "stat heads" that suggested there were "too many Yankee sites." I laughed. I knew what we were doing was going to be different... so I ignored the hate, and my writers and I started our journey.

In the end, BYB are the ones who've succeeded and passed the haters.  And you know what? We did it because we knew we could.  We believed. We are fearless. We have confidence in a product and you embraced us like a family member that understood greatness.  There is no better give-and-take in life, and thank god you understand what we represent here.  Bleeding Yankee Blue is about hope, desire, passion and pure guts.  We never sleep. We always offer you a different perspective, be it positive or negative and there’s a crazy variety.  We’ll give you stats, but we’re not stat heavy.  You want heavy stats? Go somewhere else.  Bottom line, we found our audience. The formula was out there all along, but sometimes certain blogs think they have it figured out,  and they ignore the obvious... they ignored you.  We didn't and luckily for us, we have the audience the others don't have... and we become a family in the process!

So today, on our Anniversary, or our birthday, whatever you want to call it, we see the big picture.  We write about the Yankees, but we write about family and life and the lessons that will guide you.  You see, I have always believed that baseball and life are parallel in so many ways. It starts as early as Tee-ball, or childhood, and then develops into the Farm league, or, elementary school and the social aspect and learning that will take you further.

Before you know it, you’re on a 60-90 diamond and you’re in the real world.  And that swing you have may need a tweak.  Or, maybe that swing’s your attitude and how you handle people in the real world.

Baseball’s about stepping stones and in life, you constantly climb mountains.  There are obstacles, and dammit, it’s the hardest fight in the world. Many times you’re tired and you want to give up.  You stare at the mountain and you think to yourself, “I could stop right now and be content.” Then you mind wonders, and you think...  “But what if I make it?!”  Suddenly, there you are on top, and looking in the distance, there’s another mountain, slightly bigger than the one you just climbed.  But here’s the difference this time; You have the confidence to tackle it and go further.  That’s life. That’s BYB. That’s us, all of us…together as a family. I am so blessed to have you read our pages every day, and so happy that you are with us on this journey.

Because of that drive, BYB has created bonds with so many people over the years.  First off, I have become much closer to my writers, who, I have to say, are some of the hardest working people in the world.
Remember, we all have families, we all have jobs and we grind this BYB operation out daily for you!  Yes, we love it, but we do this for free. It’s for the love of the team and our passion for writing.  When you read us, when you share us and talk about us, there is nothing more gratifying, trust me... That's why we keep doing it.

We here, believe in the achiever and we've expressed that plenty.  We appreciate guys like Ty Hensley, and his promotion to the Staten Island Yankees this year. The fact that I can just reach out and ask for an update on Ty’s life and he doesn’t hesitate, makes me happy.  It means we're doing something right.  Ty knows we believe in him, and in turn, he and his family supports Bleeding Yankee Blue.

His mother Marci’s something else too... that's Mama Bear. Loving her family, supporting what we do as well! We love you guys. Keep going, kiddo!

Laura Posada started her own company as a life coach and her new website is Lauraposada.com. She and Jorge are all about a positive lifestyle for their family and the Posada family supports BYB and we couldn’t be happier about that relationship.

You’re an inspiration, Laura and Jorge!  Thanks for being you, for being great and for keeping us in the loop here at BYB. We’ll always be grateful of our friendship with you!

He's headed into his 4th year of remission from cancer.  It’s been a truly brutal battle, but I’ve got to know Shane, and much like the title of our interview with him, THE FIGHTER, he truly is.  Besides his family who helped him through the fight, the Yankees did too.  They didn’t know it at the time, but them winning kept Shane fighting, and I was truly blown away by his story.  Be sure to read our interview.  The other blogs won’t do this type of interview… but we do, because the human interest element is emotional and touching and we all experience tragedy and achievement in our lives. I thank the Vargas for opening up to me. I will forever appreciate you guys!

I once met two Australians in Time Square for a pint.  I handed them 2 Bleeding Yankee Blue t-shirts. We shook hands, and became friends for life.  Joey and Charles Moses are 2 of the most incredible guys I know.  Since our birth at BYB, they have been there, supporting us, constantly communicating with me and we share stories about our families and life alot. But it was the Yankees that brought us together.  They’re my Australian Family. They’re wonderful. Read FROM THE BRONX, AUSTRALIA... WITH LOVE for more.

Amber Sabathia makes us smile every day here.  She's an entrepreneur and one of the hardest working women out there.  She runs AmberSabathia.com, has a clothing line called CCandy.com, which turned 1 this year and she and CC do plenty of great things to help others with the PitCCh In Foundation.  The Sabathia family is a true inspiration.  Plus... CC love us too:

We were able to interview David Phelps this year. Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: DAVID PHELPS.

He's a great kid with a great future. Plus, his wife reads us... what's not to like!

We were able to chat with Ken Singleton this year. Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: KEN SINGLETON. A great broadcaster with hardworking colleagues and I really loved learning about Kenny and the Cool Kids Campaign. Plus, we got to know guys like Bob Lorenz, Jack Curry and Nancy Newman alittle better in 2014!

Bob & Jack are THE STARSKY & HUTCH OF YES, you know.

BYB got to chat it up with draft pick Sean Carley, the young pitcher who drew comparisons to tough guy Kenny Powers, only to shave and have that story disappear before our eyes.  Read EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SEAN CARLEY IS EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS.

Sean Carley is his own man, and proving it for the Yanks on the farm with the Staten Island Yankees.  Gotta love it!

We chatted with Brett Gardner during his hot streak this year! Read BRETT GARDNER EXCLUSIVE, and with that we started to realize that BYB was creeping ahead of the rest in the blog world. We realized that if these players and incredible people are coming to line up to talk to us... we have a voice... we're making things happen. We're relevant. Thank you for helping make that happen!

We even became pals with Chicago radio guys Fahey & Chivari, and while we never considered the combination of cats and wine before... we do now.  (Read MY CHICAGO FRIENDS ARE COOL! to be included on the inside joke.)

There's a reason why all these people have created a bond with BYB. We're trusted, we're professionals, we're family.  We're working hard as a group to take it to the next level.  We're no longer a blog... we're a website, an appointment and we're working hard not to disappoint.  Myself and my writers make sure you’re fed every day, and if it means we need to be as busy on these pages as we are in our own life,  then I guess we never stop working for our audience.

This is Erica Morales, literally crashing while writing for our BYB audience one late night.  There’s no bigger support than her family who send out this picture.  BYB's a grind, and Erica's lovely family respects her hard work and dedication to her craft.  This photo is significant in so many ways.

When Mariano Rivera went to Trenton one night, BYB was there. Specifically... Suzie Pinstripe.  You see the woman with the iPad on the right? That’s Suzie. She’s in the middle of it and she's working for you, the BYB audience.  Incredible doesn’t begin to describe it.

Steve Skinner, one of our writers has brought you very telling interviews with Ian Clarkin and Michael O'Neill.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: IAN CLARKIN
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: MICHAEL O'NEILL

Both great kids, both with a great future with the Yankees, and Steve made sure we had these interviews for our audience.  It proves our dedication. We don't want to disappoint, because we know you'll be looking for it.

All of my writers are unique in so many ways.  All of them have a flair and write differently. And all of them know that if each of us need alittle help getting something great on the pages of BYB... we all jump in and help. No matter what we're doing, no matter how busy we all are... we communicate, we figure it out and we make it happen.  Team work, and execution. This is the best damn group of writers I've ever dealt with. Jeana, Mike, Ike, Steve, Suzie, Erica, Alexis, Douglas. I love you guys.

Look, this post is meant to be a celebration!  When that happens, you like to thank the people on your journey with you. I know this is long, but you know it's not boring... it's a resume. We've accomplished alot... and for the record, all those names above happened in 2014!

The irony of today and our birthday is simple. We were frustrated back on September 14th 2010 with our Yankees, and today, the way the Yanks have been playing, our ranting has returned.  It's the same type of feeling I have for my team as I did 4 years ago.  I'm frustrated and annoyed.  Will it change? Or course it will.  I love my Yankees... here's the difference though; these days, I have over 3500 friends a day that I can talk to about it.  Back in 2010... I had only me.

Hard work pays off ladies and gentlemen.  What started with me wanting to write down my thoughts on a silly loss turned into a large family of fans, who aren't just Yankee fans, but just damn good people.  The BYB audience is smart!  You understand what we're building here and you're on board.  You know we're fans, you know we don't take ourselves too seriously and you understand that we're having fun.  The best part is, you've joined us.

Bleeding Yankee Blue is 4 years old today. If you told me this would happen when it started, I would have laughed at you. But you lit a fire in me. You lit a fire in my writers.  You want us here! You appreciate us and trust me when I tell you, We appreciate our readers... our fans, our family. You read us and you wear us....

You let me know about it and Tweet it!  You Facebook and Instagram us. Hell, you even put BYB on Pintrest! It's incredible! We have a following! I mean, are you kidding?

That's why I call you guys my BYB Freaks! You have no idea how special it is to walk into Yankee Stadium and see someone wearing a BYB T-shirt.  You have no idea how special it is to know that you WANT TO WEAR US!  Again, I am blessed and appreciate your kindness and support.

You guys are the best, smartest, kindest, unselfish individuals I have ever written for. Our bond is unbreakable and we love you all for reading our pages and sharing your own stories and opinions.  It's been incredible to see what BYB has become and it went fast. I speak for all my writers when I tell you just how blessed we are. You make us smile just because you read us.  Trust me, as an author, you have no idea just how special it is to know that someone believes in you and what you have on paper.

So, Thank you.  Thanks for always being there. I'm blessed to have you all in my life, and I appreciate you pushing us to the next level.  BYB may have started with me, but it's inspired by you.  You guys keep us going.  Without you... we're nothing.

Thanks! We'll continue to not let you down.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: SEAN CARLEY IS EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

Sean Carley was sitting in his hometown barbershop in Melbourne, FL getting his signature Kenny Powers mullet and goatee shaved off when he got the call.

The Yankees had just selected Carley as their 14th round draft pick. The right-handed pitcher from West Virginia University was going to be a professional baseball player. Suddenly, the decision to scrap his trademark look seemed like a gift of foresight rather than a whimsical image change.

Since being selected by the Yankees organization, Carley has packed all his belongings away in storage and plans to drive from his Florida home to Staten Island on Friday. He’s never been to New York and he’s excited to see the Statue of Liberty and other iconic landmarks of Manhattan.

Just a few years ago, the thought of being drafted in the majors may have seemed slightly out of reach to Carley when he suffered an elbow injury as a junior that required him to undergo Tommy John surgery. They say that adversity doesn’t build character—that it reveals it. The process of coming back from serious injury only reinforced Carley’s determination to become stronger both physically and mentally. He was not a man to be denied.

Carley’s strength of character stems from the close bond he has with his family—he is the oldest of five children and understands the importance of setting a good example for his younger siblings. His dad, who is a Navy man, inspired Carley to attend the Air Force Academy where he played for two seasons before transferring to West Virginia University. His willingness to serve and potentially sacrifice for his country is evident in his style of play—though Carley is a starting pitcher, he spent a majority of his last season as a Mountaineer as a closer because the team needed him in the bullpen.

It was an adjustment, but he willed himself through as Carley always seems to do.

BYB had a chance to speak with Carley before his move to the Big Apple. You can check out our exclusive interview here. Enjoy this...

BYB: You won’t be disappointed if I don’t ask you anything about Kenny Powers will you?

Sean Carley: No, that’s fine. Kenny Powers was fun, unfortunately the Yankees have their minds pretty firm set on me cutting it [my mullet] off and shaving my face.

BYB: You didn’t always have the Kenny Powers look. Can you talk a little bit about where you came from before the mullet?

Sean Carley: Coming from a military school where I was cutting my hair and shaving my face everyday, I came out to West Virginia and when I transferred it was the perfect opportunity for me to start growing my hair out. So I started growing it out and it started getting really long on top and it didn’t look very good. So I cut off the top and then I was like, “That kind of looks like a mullet!” So I was like, “OK, mullets are kind of cool.”

The only facial hair we really had on our team was a goatee, so before I knew it people were starting to call me and say, “You know who you look like? Kenny Powers.” And it was kind of funny because I actually play baseball too. Eventually it just kind of swept through our whole school and I mean there were people making Kenny Powers shirts and coming to our games. It was pretty cool. So I kind of had to play along with it and then it just got to the point that whenever people would cover our games online or on TV they were always making these comparisons and I said I can deal with it. I don’t really act like him though.

BYB: Had you ever watched the show before then?

Sean Carley: You know I had seen it and it’s hilarious. So I just kind of adopted it and then obviously this past week after the draft it’s really kind of exploded. I mean I couldn’t be more excited to go to the Yankees, but I hope people aren’t disappointed that there will be no more Kenny Powers.

BYB: Why the Air Force Academy? What drew you to that school?

Sean Carley: Coming out of high school I had some offers to play at some Division I teams like Miami and Louisville, even Rice. But my Dad is retired Navy. He was a search and rescue swimmer. He never really pushed the military on me, but when they started recruiting me he just expressed, “Hey, when I was in the Navy cadets that had graduated from Annapolis in Maryland—those were the guys that everyone looked up to and those are the ones that rose the fastest.” And when they started recruiting me it was one of the top five schools in the nation and academics is really important to me which is why I came back for my last year to get my degree. It was a great school and with the amount of scholarship I was getting from other schools I had to make a decision: Do I pay $15,000 a year to go to school in Miami—which is a private school—and live it up? I’ve got four younger siblings, so I wanted to take a little bit of pressure off my parents to help out financially. So I had the opportunity to serve my country and have a guaranteed job when I graduated and those were all factors for me going there. I went through basic training and stuck it out and I really loved it there. There were a tremendous amount of positives associated with going there.

BYB: You mentioned your younger siblings. How has being the older brother shaped you?

Sean Carley: You feel responsible to show them a good example to look up to. The first time I came home from the Air Force I realized how much they really followed everything that I did and how they looked at the way I carried myself. It was the first time that I ever really left the house and it’s several years later and I’ve been away from home all that time and they adjusted. It’s hard though because I’m not there to watch them grow up. I’m not there to go to my sister’s volleyball and softball games or my brother’s football games. That was awfully tough for me to go so far away, but at the same time it shows them that you have to take chances and you have to go where your heart is telling you to go and don’t count anything out. You have to lead by example and show them what it means to live your life and follow your own path.

BYB: It sounds like you’re very close to your family.

Sean Carley: Absolutely. Family for me is everything. That’s why I was so excited when the Yankees came knocking because they’ve got a minor league team in Tampa. I’m praying that I get put there to give me an opportunity to let my family see me play. It was hard for them to get everyone up to West Virginia or Colorado when I was at the Air Force Academy to watch those games, so the chance to be playing in Florida regularly was pretty appealing to me.

BYB: You’re from Melbourne, FL. What was it like to grow up there? What’s your life like outside of baseball?

Sean Carley: I love fishing. I actually just bought a bowfishing bow a couple days ago as a little graduation present for myself. We take it down Banana River that runs down to the ocean—there’s a little brackish water and we go out there and anything that moves in the water we shoot. From where my house is you can actually see the space shuttles [at Cape Canaveral] go up. So every time a space shuttle would go up we’d always be outside watching it. And the beach is about five minutes away from my house so I was at the beach all the time. I’m pretty musically inclined too. I play the piano and the guitar and the ukelele. I DJ’ed a couple years up in West Virginia for some of the fraternity houses. I like being surrounded by people and I’m cool with meeting new people. So I’m very excited for this upcoming culture shock of New York City that I’ve never experienced.

BYB: What does being drafted as a Yankee mean to you?

Sean Carley: It’s overwhelming a little bit because you’re entire life they’ve always stood out and with the history the Yankees have—I mean you can go into any store in the country and they will have a Yankees hat there. There’s so much exposure on a worldwide scale that to be selected by them is something that I’ll never forget and that I’ll brag about for the rest of my life. I’m so excited. I’ve never been to New York. I’m driving up there and I’m going to see the Statue of Liberty for the first time and the Empire State Building—all that I’ve never got to experience I’m going to get to experience. It seems like such an out of this world realization for me to think that I’m a Yankee.

BYB: BYB Chief Robert Casey tells a story where he idolized Ron Guidry growing up and as a little kid and even went as far as taping a fake mustache on his lip as early as 10-years-old to practice in his backyard. Growing up, which pitcher did you idolize and why?

Sean Carley: Roger Clemens. 100 percent. He had a tremendous career when he was with the Astros and the Yankees. I have a similar body type to him so I really emulated how I throw based on what he did. I didn’t start playing baseball until I was 13 so I had to look to television and watching guys throw to see how it was done. I had swam my whole life so my shoulders were in shape from swimming and I played football so I had a little bit of arm strength. My dad would just take me out to some little league park and he’d throw me the ball and I would throw all the balls to the outfield and then I would run out there and throw them back in. From the start of my career it was always a competition. If there was a kid that threw harder than me, I wanted to throw harder. I didn’t think there was any reason that I couldn’t. So I pushed myself to train and eventually in high school there was one kid who threw hard and I just wanted to throw a little bit harder than him. So I worked for it and it’s always followed me throughout my career. I’m going into a situation where there’s probably going to be some guys that are going to throw harder than me, but I think being surrounded by that caliber of player has always benefitted me and has allowed me to push myself to become better.

BYB: You had to have Tommy John surgery. How did that determination to get better help you recover from that injury?

Sean Carley: I got hurt because I was pushing myself too much. I bought a gyro ball—it was like a hand and arm strengthening device. I’m five days away from my first start against LSU my junior year and the weekend before that I did every day a ton on exercises just trying to get better and I came out on Monday before a Friday start and I was feeling great and ended up blowing out my elbow. It made me realize that you can work hard, but you have to work smart. You can’t just push it until your body has to tell you to stop. That whole process of coming back was really just me learning to take care of my arm and take care of my body and do all the little things that in the end will translate to success in the big things.

BYB: Do you have any quote or mantra that characterizes your drive to succeed?

Sean Carley: I actually do. I have a sticker inside my car so whenever I drive I see it. I have the words right above my desk. And it’s “Exceed Expectations.” I feel like ever since I started there was always a coach or players who never thought I would be anything. I had people who said I would never play Division I baseball or would never make it as a pitcher. So that’s always been a motivation for me. Who’s to say what I can or can’t do? “Exceeding Expectations” has always been a personal motto for me.

BYB: You have this big move to New York ahead of you, but you’re also headed in to training. What is your short-term focus once you join the team?

Sean Carley: This season I started off as a starter and was having a lot of success and then halfway in to the season bullpen just really had issues. So we moved me to the back end and I started having success, but toward the end I felt like I had just gotten out of my routine. I had never been in the back end of the pitching staff, so it was a learning experience for me. So I think coming into this season I’m going to focus on some minor mechanical stuff and working on my pitchability. Going in to the offseason before Spring Training it’s going to be real getting down in the dirt time for me to really work my you-know-what-off so I can come in to Spring Training and shock some people.

BYB: Had you ever read Bleeding Yankee Blue before?

Sean Carley: I haven’t until I was drafted and Robert Casey reached out to me on Twitter!

So there you have it, you got to know Sean Carley, up close and personal and only on Bleeding Yankee Blue.

We'd like to thank Sean for taking the time to chat with us. We truly appreciate it.  Sean, the best of luck to you with the Yankees.  We'll be rooting for you, that's for sure.

To our BYB audience, I hope you enjoyed this in depth interview with Sean Carley. He's apart of the BYB family now, and we couldn't be happier!

KENNY POWERS IS A YANKEE... SORT OF

He’s just a man with a mind for victory and an arm like a cannon. And he also looks a lot like Kenny Powers.

After seeing their starting rotation decimated by injuries this season, the Yankees focused on getting back to pitching nirvana with their picks in the 2014 MLB Draft—the first five selected were all aces and the Bombers even stayed in the family when they took Mariano Rivera III in the 29th round. But it’s the Yankees 14th round pick that’s standing out due to his uncanny resemblance to Kenny Powers.

Sean Carley, out of West Virginia University, is used to the comparisons to the fictional fireballer made famous by actor Danny McBride.

The right-hander, who is originally from Melbourne, FL and an admitted Marlins fan, finished his college career as a closer with a 5-3 record with four saves after a two year absence to recuperate from Tommy John surgery.

He was selected in the 34th round by the Padres last year, but opted to return to school to improve his draft position.

Carley was getting a haircut when he got the call, and will join the Staten Island Yankees by the end of the week.

Oh, he’s also a Yankees fan now. No word yet if he is working on this routine:

I leave you with this...
