SIGNS OF YANKEE LIFE
It's always good when the Yankees come out with a win after a tough loss or tough series. Tonight, the Yanks were able to strike with 4 in the 3rd and then hold the Indians to win it 7-4. But let me start at the beginning...
Andy Pettitte was back tonight. Any time Andy comes back, it feels like he's the guy that needs to turn things around. Tonight Pettitte went 4.2 innings, allowed 7 hits and 4 runs. He struck out 3 and walked 3. I only say that because it wasn't his best outing, but it was an important outing. As he continues, the Pettitte form should return as well. The relievers consisted of Shawn Kelley who ended up getting the win, Joba Chamberlain, who's probably mad as me for my REMEMBER WHEN JOBA CHAMBERLAIN WAS PRESTON CLAIBORNE? piece, David Robertson and then Mariano Rivera came in to get his 20th save.
The hitting broke down like this: The 3rd inning had Mark Teixeira hitting a grand slam. At that point, it was clear, Tex had returned and Lyle Overbay groaned somewhere in the clubhouse. In the 6th inning, Brett Gardner singled on a ground ball to center. Ichiro Suzuki and Austin Romine scored. In the 7th, Travis Hafner homered.
There are your Yankee 7.
Overall, a good day all around. I do wonder how Pettitte will do when he fully returns to form... hopefully well.
Final: Yankees 7 - Indians 4.
