WHY HANK STEINBRENNER NEEDS TO SHAKE THINGS UP

Where’s Hank Steinbrenner when you need him? It’s funny, when things are rolling in Yankeeland and things are happy, Hank Steinbrenner wanders out of his cage and says something either offensive or stupid and suddenly the New York media jumps all over his outrageous and provocative statements. Suddenly, Hal will step in to smooth things over and suddenly Uncle Hank disappears for a 6 week clip. Then, once calm again, he fires another shot when no one sees it coming, and then it all starts over again.

Well, in this time of patience and silence by the New York Yankees, I’m going to suggest something so strange, even I will gasp… Where the hell’s Hank now? It’s so quiet in Yankeeland, this is a perfect opportunity for Uncle Hank to drive up and crash over the bushes, walk out of the 1977 Bonneville and say “We’re losing out on all the good talent! Brian needs to act faster and get us better players! Instead nothing. (I picture Hank driving a Bonneville, don't ask my why.)

Ladies and Gentlemen, what has happened? When Brian Cashman preached patience, no one in the Yankee Universe took him too seriously. Yet, that is exactly what he meant. Holy crap! Could it be that Cashman didn’t lie to us? That appears to be the case, because with all the quick moves and activity that we’ve seen in the past, you really have to readjust your life as a Yankee fan these days. It’s like having the milk on the same shelf in the fridge for your entire life. Then one day, you go in to get the milk and you can’t find it… panic sets in. “What is going on here? Then, you find it on the door. You feel uneasy and not comfortable with that. It’s still the same milk, it’s just in another place. Yes, we’re still the same New York Yankees, we’re just trying to save a couple bucks to become the Yankees we once were in the next year or 2, but not now. Look, it’s clear the Yankees have no desire to make moves this winter and if there is a guy here and a guy here they can get cheap, they’ll go for it, but knee-jerk reason signings are a thing of the past.

Cashman knows big talent will soon be available on the free agent market after this season, and if they can wait it out with a pretty good team now and still get to the playoffs, his thinking maybe is that we can try and win it all with what we have. I'm guessing it’s a strategic waiting game and if Cash could change the calander to 2013 right now, he would… for now though, he's just offering patience. Believe me, while I get it, I don’t understand it.

I need a glass of milk, I hope its on the correct shelf.
