GEEZ, HAVE YOU SEEN THE YANKEES "INJURED LIST" LATELY?

It was no surprise that Luis Gil was dealing with a lat strain, but what we didn’t know—until now—was just how serious it was. According to the Yankees and their ever-vague manager Aaron Boone, Gil has a high-grade lat strain and won’t even pick up a baseball for at least six weeks.

That’s a massive blow for the Yankees. Gil was a crucial mid-rotation arm who played a key role in last season’s early success, and now, instead of solidifying the rotation, he’ll be stuck on the injured list. His absence forces the Yankees to rely on less consistent options to fill the gap.

Gil had a breakout season in 2024, finishing with a strong 15-7 record and a 3.50 ERA over 151⅔ innings. His 171 strikeouts proved his ability to overpower hitters. This was supposed to be the year he built on that success. Instead, he joins the growing list of Yankees dealing with injuries before Opening Day even arrives.

Now, the rotation has to be reshuffled. Newcomer Max Fried looked dominant against the Pirates last night, and the team still has Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, Clarke Schmidt (when healthy), and of course, Marcus Stroman, who continues to insist he’s a full-time starter. But Gil’s absence still stings—it’s another hit to a rotation that was finally looking like a strength.

And let’s be honest—when the Yankees say “six weeks,” we all know that’s closer to eight in reality. Given the team’s recent track record with injuries, it wouldn’t be shocking if this drags into the summer.

Speaking of injuries, remember when Aaron Boone confidently told everyone at the start of spring training that player physicals came back clean? How’s that working out now?  Here's the injury list brought to you by ESPN and Rotowire.

The current list of injuries is piling up, raising serious questions about the Yankees’ training and medical staff. Either their routines aren’t effective, or someone isn’t giving the right advice.

One thing’s for sure—this is yet another frustrating chapter in the Yankees’ ongoing battle with keeping players healthy.

I can't stand it. Fire Boone please.
