The White Sox have claimed right-hander Owen White off waivers from the Yankees, as both teams announced. New York had designated him for assignment just last week—an interesting twist considering they had only recently claimed him themselves.
Once a highly regarded prospect, White ranked No. 59 on Baseball America’s Top 100 list heading into 2023. However, his transition to the majors has been anything but smooth. He made his big-league debut that same year, but in just seven innings of work, he was tagged for 13 earned runs, resulting in a staggering 16.71 ERA. His time in Triple-A hasn’t been much better, posting a 5.41 ERA over 151 1/3 innings between 2023 and 2024.
There’s no denying the struggles, but talent is still there. Now, it’s up to White to turn things around. Best of luck to him in Chicago.
