I'm the first person to tell you that I am not a fan of Joey Gallo. I didn't like it when he came to New York and I was thrilled when he left New York. Sometimes players and the Bronx don't mix, and when you throw in lack of performance, the fans will literally hate you. We're the Yankees, we expect top tier. It's how we fans were groomed all these years... it's just the way it is.
Since then Gallo has moved on. Now he's on the Twins. I wrote about it in THE GALLO FREE FALL. Check it out if you care.
As far as I was concerned, I had moved on. Apparently, some fans did not.
The New York Daily News writes:
"Yankees fans down in Florida gave a stark reminder on how they felt about a former Bronx Bomber.Ex-Yankee Joey Gallo was booed loudly during the Minnesota Twins’ 1-0 victory over the Bombers Monday, giving the two-time All-Star a preview of what future road games in Yankee Stadium will be like.
Gallo went 1-for-3 in the game and was heckled each time he came to the plate. The 29-year-old became enemy No. 1 to Yankees fans after an abysmal tenure in the Bronx."
I guess my question is why? Why do we bother? Why are we wasting energy? Why don't we leave this guy alone now and let him figure it out?
I love Yankee fans.... but we got to let this one go. We got him out of New York... Gallo is now with the Twins... he is that cities problem. We have bigger fish to fry.
I wish Gallo nothing but the best. It just didn't work out in New York, that's all and that's OK.
