No one likes a walk off more than me. The Yankees were in a drag out fight yesterday. The Red Sox needed to be put away but they just kept coming back.  The Stadium was electric by the way. Way to represent Yankee fans!  And it almost seemed right that new Yankee Josh Donaldson would be the guy to put the Yankees on top.  Donaldson is a team leader, a clubhouse guy. I have ranked on his age and his injury track record when the acquistion was made. I freely admit that. But what I did forget was his ability to rally the troops when they needed it most. Yesterday... he did that. Yankees had a big win!

The New York Post writes:

"If Opening Day was any indication, this is going to be an interesting season in The Bronx.

The Yankees beat the Red Sox, 6-5, in 11 innings, coming back three different times before Josh Donaldson won it with a game-winning single in his Yankees debut...

Donaldson, with ghost runner Isiah Kiner-Falefa at second, led off the bottom of the 11th with a single off Kutter Crawford — in just the second appearance of his MLB career. The hit drove in Kiner-Falefa and marked the Yankees’ first Opening Day walk-off win since 1957 against the Washington Senators.

The Yankees overcame another poor outing by Cole against the Red Sox. In his final outing of 2021, Cole failed to retire a batter in the third inning of the wild-card game in Boston. "

And let's not forget another important thing that happened. Anthony Rizzo homered.

 

This is a guy we left hanging out to dry out there for most of the off season, only going to him when the options slimmed. Rizzo reminded the Yankees yesterday why we need him.  Another team leader and solid bat.

In the end, Yanks win, we are reminded of our team leaders and we move forward. Who knows how this season will go, but if it's like this all season, I will gladly get my ticket package back!
