Aaron Judge is a good Yankee and very marketable. As far as I'm concerned, the Yankees should pay him... WITHIN REASON.
Quite simply, the Yankees gave Judge a pretty solid offer... seven-years, $213.5-million. Judge stuck his nose in the air. According to reports, Judge was pretty pissed about it, but instead, he went to the media saying he was "disappointed". He's got bad people surrounding him to think that's not a solid offer.
NJ.com interviewed some fans at the game yesterday to find out what they thought. Remember, many fans are hard working regular folks. They could easily tell the media that Judge should get every penny he could get... but they didn't.
"Jeff Siena and daughter Jen were training from Connecticut to the Bronx for Opening Day at Yankee Stadium when a Yankees alert showed up on their phone... Both Sienas are Judge fans, but both sided with the Yankees.
His daughter agreed.
“There’s no loyalty here from Judge,” said Jen Siena, who works as an Applied Behavior Analysis therapist in special education. “He should have taken the money. The Yankees have treated him extremely well.”...
“The Yankees made a fair offer,” said Carlos Zambrano, a 46-year-old from Bayside, Queens. “Judge would have been one of the highest-paid players in baseball. He wants nine years?... “I don’t know that Judge could put up monster years that long,” Zambrano added."
And that's the key to all of this... it's business. The Yankees know they can get 7 good years back on their investment of Judge... but not 9... that would be foolish.
Judge came back to the media and said “I’m not afraid of searching for a job.’’ In the days of George, that statement will get you traded.
This comes down to 1 thing... being selfish. Aaron Judge is playing hard-nosed and he has that right, but let's not forget that Judge hasn't let the Yankees to a single championship, he's been hurt alot and only been a full time Yankee since 2017. He's a career .276 hitter with 158 homers. Let's keep it real. You wanna go see what other teams will offer? Go. The fans think you're selfish... don't listen to your people... take the offer. After 7 years you can always try and get a few more years out of the Yankees.
For now... we wait. But I will bet you the Yankees won't budge.
Aaron Judge does not understand what wearing the Pinstripes mean.
ReplyDeleteHe turned down 31.5 million and he said he had to take care of his family , he either has a bunch of family milking his wallet or he is just plain stupid knowing what families are going through at this time.
One word describes this.
