The idea of getting Dellin Betances back in games is exciting. He started the season on the Injured List and suffered a setback during a simulated game on April 11th that required three weeks without throwing. Now let's hope there are no more setbacks and this is the start to getting Betances back, eventually.
It's going to take some time but according to Newsday HERE, Brian Cashman says they are hopeful to get Betances back "sometime in June" as long as everything goes to plan. June may still be a month away but getting Betances back in the bullpen would be HUGE. It's definitely something to look forward to.
In the meantime Betances is proceeding with caution, "I was a little nervous to be honest with you. Any time you rest for three weeks, you don’t know how you’re going to feel but I was really encouraged with what I did today." It's a good start, but he has a long way to go. Betances made 25 throws at 60 feet which doesn't sound like a lot but under the watchful eye of Larry Rothschild and trainer Steve Donohue will continue to progress.
I know some may say it is a little premature to get excited about this but it's been a very long time since we have seen Betances in action. The bullpen is good without Betances, but it can be a powerhouse with him in it again. I just want to see him pitch with Zack Britton and Adam Ottavino and make that bullpen the deadliest in all of baseball.
It's been a long time coming but a reunion with the Yankees will be here soon. Patience is not one of my strong suits, but some things are worth the wait. I think this is one of them, especially if our bullpen dominates the way I think it will.
See you next month, Betances....we're all counting down.
