Jacoby Ellsbury had a good game last night. But Jacoby Ellsbury is now officially hurt. Will it hurt our chances down the stretch? Well... we need that Yankee fan heart right about now... don't we?
According to the Bergen Record, there's a strain situation:
"Joe Girardi acknowledged after the game that the right hamstring strain Ellsbury suffered while running out a grounder in the fourth inning could keep him from returning to the lineup.
The results of the MRI that Ellsbury underwent Friday night weren’t made available, yet Girardi said he’d be "surprised" if Ellsbury plays today against the Blue Jays.
"I think that’s a distinct possibility," Girardi said regarding Ellsbury missing the final nine games of the season."
Oh goodie. That's what I needed to hear.
Look, Ellsbury been big this season, we all can appreciate him in his first season in pinstripes, but with him gone, the Yanks need to step it up yet again. The Yankees won 3 in a row. Momentum is key right now. Bottom line, we can do this... it's happened before, we need to get behind our team as fans.
I'll leave you with this; It's a quote from Adam Warren after last nights game. It stuck with me for some reason... I thought I would pass it along:
"We're just playing like we don't have anything to lose...We're not putting pressure on ourselves. I think we're really benefiting from that. We're putting a little run together. I don't know if we'll make it back in or not, but at least end strong and see what happens."
That's seriously all that can be done, and fans need to get behind that.
