McCARTHY GRINDS IT WHILE THE YANKEES FLOP
Rick Porcello pitched a gem for the Motown Cats tonight. I'd love to get on the Yankees case big time, not really sure I can, even though I'd love to beat the Tigers every single time! Look though, the 5 game winning streak was snapped, but Porello just pitched really well, and the Yankees couldn't help out Brandon McCarthy at all. They tried... oh they tried, but it wasn't enough.
Brandon McCarthy has been nothing but excellent for New York. He was again tonight, going 6.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 5 runs. Hey, 5 runs is enough to chip away at in a 9 inning game, especially even after a Yankees winning streak. But with Porcello pitching tonight, it was downright impossible.
The only Yankee runs came when Jacoby Ellsbury hit 2 home runs. Both were solo shots. 1 home run in the 5th. 1 home run in the 8th.
Other than that, the Yankees stumbled. There were moments... I mean, besides Ellsbury, Derek Jeter and Carlos Beltran were each 2-4.
But we left 5 men on base. We didn't have it tonight against good pitching. I'd love to hammer the Yanks... I just can't.
Look, all we can do is go to bed and comeback tomorrow swinging. We can do this... but truth be told... if a team could win 162 games in a season... the Yankees would be doing it... but it's just not possible. Give them the loss tonight, but we're back strong tomorrow!
Final: Tigers 5 - Yankees 2
