An interesting, yet obvious nugget coming out of Newsday today. Hal Steinbrenner says Alex Rodriguez is an "asset" and he could be back in 2015... Oh goodie.
Hal Steinbrenner was asked about ARod and said, "He's a great player. I have not thought about 2015 nor am I going to
right now. When he's on and when he's healthy, he's obviously an asset .
. . When Alex Rodriguez is healthy and himself, I think most objective
baseball people would say he can be an asset to a club."
I mean, don't get all excited. Look, you have to put this in perspective. You signed a player longer than you probably should have... you still owe him a ton of money. He's also been knee deep in PEDs and suspended for the entire 2014 season. You, as an owner need to smile to the camera, and punch the wall behind closed doors, because while you may not WANT the guy back, you'd like to see alittle return on the investment. It's a bad situation the Yankees are in.
I've stated a while back that the Yankees are equally responsible for the ARod mess. He's an ego maniac and the Yankees should never had signed him as long as they did. That being said, they're in it, so why not smile and cross your fingers and hope it all works out in the end.
Just wanted to share that quote. It was a good nugget.
