COME ON HUGHES, YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT!
Call me a die hard fan that believes that the Yankees need too win every game. I believe in aggression. I also believe that with the Captain returning... officially, officially this time, we HAVE to win on a night like this. Plus, the Blue Jays are a last place hack club. What is wrong with us that we can't deliver?
Maybe we should have planned better. Maybe strategically, we should have stacked a better starter with Jeter's returning instead of using Phil Hughes.
It sounds terrible I know, but I have no faith in the guy. I guess you must feel the same way. Hughes tonight went 4.2 innings, gave up 7 hits and 5 runs. As Rudy Laurens, one of the BYB writers said... Hughes is P.U. If your pitcher can't keep you in the game, how can hitters catch up? Now, in fairness to Hughes, the Yankees have the talent to come back from a 5 run deficit... they just didn't. Plus, with Ichiro dropping that pop in the 5th, that hurts too. I was surprised by that actually... it's rare.
Anyway, the Yankee runs went like this:
In the first inning, Robinson Cano grounded out but he was able to get in Brett Gardner. In the top of the 5th, Alex Rodriguez homered.
The only other bad news for the Yankees besides Hughes and Ichiro was Derek Jeter going 0-3 with a strikeout, but it was great to have him back.
The bright spot tonight was David Huff. Huff went 3.1 innings saving the bullpen. Good for him. That's 2 fine back to back performances.
Final: Blue Jays 5 - Yankees 2
We need to forget about it and come back and win tomorrow. Can't cry over this...
