THE CAPTAIN RETURNS: PART 3

Cross your fingers and hold your breath....but if the Captain is feeling good today then he could be back in the lineup. Here we are at the end of July and this would be his second appearance for the season. It would be nice for things to start going our way because boy do we need the guidance of Derek Jeter.

The Captain was eligible to come off of the disabled list yesterday, but the Yankees decided to sit on the side of caution. They wanted to give Jeter one last final test, so they had him play in another game but this time it wasn't publicized like the last time. The Yankees decided to keep his last appearance a secret, read that HERE. This time there was no last minute ticket frenzy and the fans were left guessing where he may show up.

Jeter did play in a simulated game in Staten Island. After the Yankees lost to the Rays, Joe Girardi said that the secret game went well. He was able to run the bases and had eight at bats. It seems like good news. I am trying not to hold my breath though....we have been down this road before.

According to Girardi, if Jeter shows up to the stadium today feeling good then he will be in the lineup. We need him out there. This team needs some leadership and it is getting really late. The Yankees are trying to avoid a sweep at home and right now....are chasing a wild card spot. It is still do-able but it is time to turn up the intensity. Now that the Yankees have lost Travis Hafner, we need to get our injured guys back in the game and make the final push with a healthy roster.

So here is to hoping that Jeter shows up to Yankee stadium feeling strong, and energized. We need him out there at shortstop again. The Yankees also have a stretch on the road against some National League teams so the Yankees cant just plug him into that DH role. Now is the time to make up some ground!

Welcome back Captain....you have been missed more than you know. I'm beyond excited. Let's go Yankees! We can still do this, but we have to right the ship now before it is too late.
