"Alex should just shut the f--- up. That's it."
-- Brian Cashman responding to reports of
Alex Rodriguez Tweeting about his progress.
For anyone who lives under a rock, the big news on Twitter this week is that Alex Rodriguez now Tweets. He has a Twitter handle of @AROD. Creative right? Anyway, the way the story goes is, Alex has been tweeting his progress. We all know he's rehabbing and probably chomping at the bit to get back to the Yankees. The bottom line is, he's anxious, I get that. But you know who doesn't? Brian Cashman.
Earlier today, ARod wrote this:
Visit from Dr. Kelly over the weekend, who gave me the best news - the green light to play games again! http://t.co/RuzfXOJjHI
— Alex Rodriguez (@AROD) June 25, 2013
Exciting right? Well Cashman got wind of it today and clearly wasn't happy. According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN (HERE), "Livid over Alex Rodriguez's decision to tweet an update on his rehab process, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had a message for the third baseman. 'You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will],' Cashman told ESPN New York. 'Alex should just shut the f--- up. That's it. I'm going to call Alex now.' ...Rodriguez's comments seemed to contradict what Cashman told ESPN New York's Wallace Matthews on Monday. ...Cashman shot down a report that Rodriguez had been given the go-ahead to play in games. 'He has not been cleared by our doctors to play in rehab games yet,' he said. 'He's getting closer. There's no doubt about it. But we don't have a date for him to start playing games yet. It could be July 1. It could also be July 5, or maybe June 25.'"
Now look, my only question is this... why the hell is Cashman so pissed at Alex for Tweeting his rehab updates, when guys like Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira do it all the time?
Brace is finally off for non baseball activities. Another step closer! pic.twitter.com/ovS4XAlYjoI mean honestly... what's the difference?

It's clear to me that the Yankees are fed up with Alex. This latest outburst from Cashman has made that crystal clear. Not only that, there's a double standard here. If the Yankees don't want "certain" Yankees tweeting, then why not just block the whole crew because there are plenty of guys that give us updates all the time and you know what? Alex didn't do anything wrong here... this is a clear cut case of a guy wanting to get back out there. Chalk it up as anxious, don't chalk it up as arrogant. That's my take anyway.
