AGGRESSION RISING WITH CHRISTIAN WALKER

Brace yourselves, Yankees fans—this offseason is shaping up to be an absolute spectacle and maybe for the Yankees in a good way. With the ink barely dry on Max Fried's blockbuster deal, the Yankees are reportedly setting their sights on Christian Walker and, possibly, Kyle Tucker of the Asstros. It’s a refreshing change of pace to see the Bronx Bombers being proactive for once, and it’s nothing short of glorious.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi, the Yankees have their priorities in order. Instead of getting caught in a bidding war for Pete Alonso, they’re focusing on Christian Walker, the 11-year veteran who’s drawing interest from nearly every team with a pulse. "Based on what I’ve heard from sources the last couple of days, Christian Walker, at the moment, is more of a priority for the Yankees than Pete Alonso," Morosi reported.

It makes sense. Walker, who turns 34 in March, offers plenty of power at a corner infield spot and brings superior defense to the table. Plus, he’s expected to be more cost-effective than Alonso—no 10-year, $400 million Soto-style madness here. Instead, Walker needs to settle into a shorter deal, likely three years, which is exactly the kind of smart move the Yankees need to make in my opinion.

Walker’s market is heating up faster than a July afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The Washington Nationals have reportedly joined the fray, and even the Detroit Tigers are making noise as surprise contenders. Still, it feels like this will come down to the Yankees and the Mets.

Walker spent the last eight seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and while injuries limited him to 130 games in 2024, he still cranked out 26 home runs and 84 RBIs. A righty bat with a consistent track record of power and defensive reliability, he’s arguably the top position player left in free agency now that Juan Soto is off the board.

But here’s the kicker: if the Yankees end up in a bidding war with the Mets, we know Steve Cohen has no problem backing up the Brinks truck for a ridiculous contract. Soto’s deal is proof enough. The Yankees need to stay disciplined—no crazy long-term deals here. Three years max and call it a day.

It is my opinion that for once, the Yankees aren’t sitting back and waiting for the market to dictate their moves—they’re making waves, and it’s a joy to watch. Max Fried is already in pinstripes, and if Walker and Tucker follow suit, this team could be downright terrifying in 2025.

So, let’s savor this moment, Yankees fans. The front office is showing a rare sense of urgency, and the pieces are falling into place. If Cashman keeps this up, we might just forget the pain of watching Soto end up in Queens. Maybe.
