Alright, alright calm down... it's meant as more of a question than a statement, this is true. But truth be told, when I heard that the Colorado Rockies were looking to possibly unload catcher Ramon Hernandez, the Yankees crossed my mind. You can read Jon Heyman of CBS Sports about Hernandez and the Rockies possibly wanted to move him, HERE.
Now look... We have heard Brian Cashman say that he's sticking with Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart. In fact, we just put together a piece about it all, with a slight edge going to Stewart... this is coming from our own Suzie Pinstripe. Read NOW BATTING FOR THE YANKEES, THE CATCHER, NUMBER.... That being said, Cashman's been the guy that surprises us once in a while. The point is who knows if he's interested, he never shows his hand.
What if... and is Hernandez a better alternative to what we have already? You tell me. He's 36 at this point. He was a backup catcher and only has 5 home runs in only 52 games last season. Not exactly a powerhouse anymore. The other thing is he's owed over $3 million this year. The Yanks would have to figure out the money and the talent to ship off to Colorado to make this work. So I ask you, would it even be worth it? Again, I'm just asking... what would you do?
Would you stick with Cervelli and Stewart and wait for Austin Romine to come up? OR... would you roll the dice on Hernandez and try and get lightening in a bottle. Let me know what you would do... comment.
