"Paperwork might determine what the Yankees pitching rotation looks like, and it's not out of the question Michael Pineda could start the season at Triple-A.
Wednesday, for the second straight day, manager Joe Girardi mentioned minor league options and how they may factor into the four-arm competition for the three spots left after CC Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda.
"That's a possibility,'' Girardi said about a hurler being sent to the minors to start the season. "Some of the guys have options if that's what we need to do. But if it makes us a better team putting them in the bullpen we might do it.''
And to think I was convinced that the Yanks were concerned about this young man's youth and innings load and protecting their investment. That's why sometimes I get it wrong and I'm fine with that.

If Pineda was to start the season in the minors, I believe we will hear the campaigns to “can” Cashman or crucify him for giving up our future in Montero. All I say is, we all need to take our foot off the gas. Spring is exactly what it is…spring. Working out the kinks. We have a few weeks left to see what Pineda can offer. At that point the Yankees make a decision and if they decide to send him down due to "options", it's not the end of the world. Everything George King III wrote makes sense...Respect it.
The New York Yankees will be fine no matter what happens. Whatever you think about the trade of Pineda for Montero or Ken Phelps for Jay Buhner, remember this, teams make moves that they believe will better the team. Some work, some don’t, but one thing we can’t do Yankee fans is second guess any of it. If Pineda were to start in the minors, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, it’s just a way for him to improve, get some work in and come up hotter than hell to mow them down for the New York Yankees, be it April or May. But let’s sit back and watch things happen first, I promise it’ll all work out.
