WHY YANKEES & RUSSELL MARTIN ARE TALKING EXTENSION

Andrew Marchand of ESPN says the Yankees want to try and nail down Russell Martin to a 3 year deal. Read about it HERE. Don't forget, the Yanks signed Martin to a one year deal (HERE) and then there were whispers that maybe the Yanks would try revisiting Martin at some point in the Spring to offer an extension. That apparently has come true, according to many sources. As Marchand says:

"If Martin were to have a strong year, he would likely be able to get a three-year contract on the open market. After last season, in which Martin made the All-Star team, his agent and the Yankees avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract for $7.5 million, with Martin able to collect another $25,000 to $100,000 based on reaching 400-475 plate appearances."

No doubt my love for Russell Martin has grown and I'd love him around for a few more years. We even wrote this piece back in November titled WHY A MULTI-YEAR DEAL FOR RUSSELL MARTIN IS SMART. Martin's worked very hard and provided positive results with all the Yankees pitching. He's even complimented Michael Pineda whom he seems to like so far this Spring Training. Read that HERE. Martin said Rothschild asked him to get with Pineda the moment the Yankees signed him... and he has.

If the Martin deal goes down, we'll have it for you here at Bleeding Yankee Blue... promise.
