WHY THE YANKEES AREN'T DESPERATE TO TRADE BURNETT

Real quick, in this entire trade rumor weekend of AJ Burnett, you need to understand 1 thing, Burnett is not a horrendous pitcher although he appears to be a pitcher that has lost his way in the Bronx. That being said, the Pirates and Yankees are talking about a trade and it appears that where it stands right now is the Yankees are not jazzed about who the Pirates are offering in return for Burnett. That, and they really need to figure out the money, meaning, how much will the Pirates pick up of the Burnett contract? If the Yankees can convince the Pirates to pay between $13 and $14 million, and give decent prospects or a major league ready player, or 2, they'll call it a day and trade AJ Burnett, but they aren't going to just give him away. This is business.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN, read HERE says right now the deal to trade Burnett is 50-50. I think it's actually closer than that, but I also believe that the Yankees can't appear desperate and shouldn't. Here's what Marchand had to say:

"A second source... emphasized the Yankees are not desperate to make a deal. The source said the team will go to spring training with Burnett if the Pirates or whomever else does not reach the financial and player parameters the Yankees are looking for; in that case the team won't make the trade. "

Stay tuned... today will be a busy day in Yankeeland whatever the outcome.
