WHY FREDDY'S ON A MISSION

There's no doubt about it. Freddy Garcia needs a job and he's not going to give up, no matter what. No doubt he thought Colon wouldn't be giving him such a run for his money, but that being said, Garcia knows what he needs to to to be part of the Yankees rotation.

"You have to come here with a different mind. You have to go after the hitter, throw strikes and make it happen."

Garcia has never had a good March in his career. Always slow, but this year with the Yankees, he's had a new attitude and new confidence. In his few appearances this spring, he's been solid. In fact, in last Thursday's game against the Rays, he was impressive handling a nice part of the Rays lineup including Longoria and Manny. Many believe the spot in the rotation is his to lose, including Garcia himself. He currently is the front runner with Ivan Nova, although Bartolo Colon was a strikeout God against the evil Red Sox on Friday, which raised his stock considerably.

The Bergen Record's Pete Caldera said Garcia spoke of the rotation competition: "I wish them good luck...But at the end of the day, I want to be the one (who) earned that
spot."

On a side note, let's not forget the Bleeding Yankee Blue poll that wanted Freddy Garcia on the Yankees in the first place. Read it HERE. You guys voted who you'd like to see there and so far, you're all geniuses.

Look, to me, first impression is major and once Garcia walked into Yankee camp, it was clear to me that he knew what it took to be a Yankee. You have to dig that confidence and positive attitude, especially in New York. It reeks victory and if Garcia can finally be hot in March and stay hot once he makes the team, there's no stopping this guy, and the Yankees may be better off than expected. Plus, Cashman's gonna look real good, isn't he. Let's hope it all works out that way.
