THE HALL OF FAME IS DEAD!

The news from yesterday has me sick. As soon as I saw the news I texted Casey because I was practically spitting bullets. I've had a few people tell me to get over it and stop talking about it but....I'm not gonna.

In case you didn't catch up on the baseball headlines yesterday Carlos Beltran was voted into the Hall of Fame. The sign stealing legend and head schemer of the 2017 Astros cheating scandal will become part of baseball's greatest honor.....let that sink in for a minute.

The man with no honor and integrity will forever be enshrined amongst the greatest names in the game. He's a disgrace to those who played the game with honor and passion like Derek Jeter. Jeter IS a hall of famer, Beltran is a horrible mistake with no honor. Will the Hall of Fame will ever be seen as a legitimate institution ever again? It's a fair question.

Beltran disgraced the game and should be shunned from baseball history just like Pete Rose was. Pete Rose, cheated OFF of the field and was banned from the sport and WAS ineligible for Hall of Fame consideration until May of 2025. He was made an example of. Nothing Rose did impacted the game during his playing time. He paid a high price that Beltran will never pay.

And you can't talk about scandals without talking about Shoeless Joe Jackson. He was banned from baseball in 1921 for his involvement in the "Black Sox Scandal," after he and some teammates conspired with gamblers to intentionally lose the 1919 World Series. He was permanently banned by newly appointed MLB Commissioner, Kenesaw Mountain Landis, to preserve the integrity of the game.....imagine that. Jackson cheated as a player and was held accountable. This is not the world we live in anymore.

However here we are a century later and Beltran cheated ON the field and has no consequences. He wasn't banned, weak pansy Rob Manfred protected him! The integrity that previous MLB commissioners fought to preserve has vanished. Two years after the scandal, Beltran was rewarded with a manager job for the Mets and just over two months later is removed from that role....all thanks to his involvement in the cheating scandal. He wasn't honorable enough to manager, but now he is honored by being inducted into the Hall of Fame? It's asinine.

So now that the writers have voted Beltran in, they have set a precedence that integrity doesn't matter. Honor can be lost and you can still be rewarded with a place in baseball history. Now let's just add Manny Ramirez, Jose Canseco and Alex Rodriguez to the inductee list! I don't care WHAT form of cheating it is. I don't care if you think it's not the same....it's still a disgrace to the game. One disgrace is not "less" than another. Greats belong in the Hall of Fame, not just great stats but also great stewards of the game itself and with good character.

So Beltran may be feeling himself right now. He may be standing tall but being in the hall doesn't erase history, and Beltran will always be known as the architect of a massive and blatant cheating scheme. He brought disgrace to the game and that should NOT be rewarded for that by getting a place amongst the true greats of this game.

That's just my two cents. Agree with it or not, it doesn't matter to me. Integrity over anything else.....period.
The Hall of Fame is now tainted. It is DEAD. I will never look at it the same again.

THE COBRA IS DEAD

Dave Parker—“The Cobra”—wasn’t just a baseball player. He was a movement in motion. One of the most electrifying and intimidating outfielders the game has ever seen, Parker passed away Saturday at the age of 74, following a long, brave fight with Parkinson’s disease.

And while his death is deeply sad, there’s no ignoring the sheer impact he left behind.

Let’s talk greatness. The man was the 1978 National League MVP, a seven-time All-Star, and a two-time World Series champion—first with the Pirates in 1979 and then with the A’s a decade later in 1989. He won back-to-back NL batting titles, had three Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers, and was the MVP of the ’79 All-Star Game. Oh, and he also won the very first MLB Home Run Derby in 1985. Just for fun.

He finished his career with 2,712 hits, 339 home runs, and 1,493 RBIs. He batted .290 over 19 seasons, from 1973 to 1991. Those aren’t just Hall of Fame numbers—those are the stats of a cornerstone. A franchise player. A guy pitchers feared and teammates admired.

And yet, Dave Parker’s legacy isn’t just about numbers. It’s about presence. Parker was cool. Parker was powerful. Parker was the kind of player who looked like he could bench press the dugout and still outrun your center fielder. He had a cannon for an arm, a swing that cracked like thunder, and a confidence that didn’t ask for your permission.

He was the heart and soul of the 1979 “We Are Family” Pirates. And in Oakland, he became a mentor to young sluggers like Mark McGwire and José Canseco. His influence went beyond what showed up in the box score.

But we can’t talk about Parker without acknowledging the darker chapters. In 1985, he was named in the Pittsburgh drug trials—a sweeping scandal that pulled back the curtain on widespread cocaine use in Major League Baseball. Parker, along with several other players, admitted to drug use and was among those initially suspended. The suspensions were ultimately lifted in exchange for community service, drug testing, and fines. It was a black mark—but one that speaks to a larger moment in baseball’s history, not just an individual failing.

And here's the thing: people make mistakes. Athletes are human. Parker owned his missteps and kept moving forward. That, too, is part of the story. Like Pete Rose, Parker showed us that greatness can be complicated—and that flawed doesn’t mean forgotten.

Personally, I’ll always remember Dave Parker as a Pirate, because that’s where he roared the loudest. But he meant something everywhere he went. He played with passion. He played with fire. And when he was at his best, no one—and I mean no one—played the game harder.

Rest in peace, Cobra. The game was better because you played it.

IF YOU'RE GONNA RIP AN ATHLETE, MAKE SURE YOU SPELL IT RIGHT

Quick note.  Now everyone makes mistakes, but sometimes when you work for a major publication it's important to double check your work.

Let me start at the beginning.  The Yankees lineup came out for tonight's Yankee / Mets game. The lineup is hardly Murderer's Row. In fact, it's not even regular row.  It's just a line up for like the Talladega Balloon Knots or something.  It's not impressive. The fact that the Yankees are relying on two guys to do great things in Aaron Judge and Juan Soto in every single game gets old quickly, especially for us Yankee fans.  The Yankee front office is killing us.  Awful... and you know Aaron Boone made that lineup.

But that gets me back to my point... mistakes.  Jose Canseco's name is Jose Canseco... not Jose Conseco, and the fact that the Sporting News took the time to wanna complain about Canseco for clicks and not even get the fucking guy's name right is a ridiculous error.  The guy is an 80's baseball icon. The guy is in the news every day.  Just google the guy.

Big error by the Sporting News and Kevin Hickey.  Silly.  By the way, Canseco and hundreds including myself commented on this weird lineup tonight.

Win or lose tonight, no Yankee fan wants to spend a fortune on tickets parking and meals to see this lineup ever.  The Yankees need to do better. The Sporting News does too apparently.

THAT ALEK MANOAH VS GERRIT COLE FEUD JUST GOT INTERESTING AGAIN!

You don't have to be a Yankee fan (or a hater) to be drawn into this story, you just need to be a baseball fan. Do you remember the Alek Manoah and Gerrit Cole drama from last season? Well, it's back and Cole just might have the last laugh....maybe.

In case you forgot, in an interview Manoah was asked who the worst cheater in baseball history was, and his response was Cole, you can read more and even listen to his interview HERE. If you don't want to listen to the whole clip or even read about it all you really need to read is one sentence:

“He used a lot of sticky stuff to make his pitches better, and he kind of got called out on it." --Alek Manoah

Okay, Manoah you have the right to your opinion but for the record you were asked who the worst cheater is in baseball history and your answer just sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder. There are some much bigger names that cheated in baseball's extensive history. Cole doesn't even crack my top 10 names. I guess he forgot about Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodriguez and Jose Canseco just to name a few. What about the 2017 Houston Astros? Talk about a large-scale cheating scandal.

But I digress. I was looking forward to 2023 because I was really hoping to watch these two try and outpitch each other in a division race this year, but that never happened. Even if the Yankees did not tank this season and let's pretend the Yankees were in the hunt.... we wouldn't see Manoah take the mound because he quit!

Manoah has left the stadium ladies and gentlemen, read more HERE. Manoah has regressed since last season, and his 3-9 record and 5.87 ERA has earned him two demotions this season down to Triple-A Buffalo. He was demoted to Triple-A after his last start on August 10th and failed to report for two weeks. He had physical testing done before returning to Buffalo to make sure he was healthy, but then had some additional testing done last week. No concerns were found in any of his tests, but he has not been throwing since his last start. With only 2 weeks left in the Triple-A season, he will not be able to ramp back up again and be available, if he were to be called back up to Toronto.

So basically, homeboy quit. He quit on his team. He had a lot to say last year when he was on the top of his game. So after one year of success, he is back down in Triple-A and can't handle it. Typical. The guy who finished third last season in Cy Young voting has crumbled, while Cole could very well be this year's winner. Funny how that works out.

I wish we would've had the pitching duel I mentioned earlier, so we could see this play out where it mattered but I guess we will have to wait for next season. The baseball fan in me wanted to see two potential Cy Young candidates settle this on the mound. It would be more enjoyable to see though with Cole as the reigning winner.

So, Manoah... you quit, and you definitely got called out on it. You can think about that as you sit and watch from your couch.

HILARIOUS! JOSE CANSECO TWEETS TO AARON JUDGE & INSULTS FANS

You just can't make some things up and this is one of them. Did you catch what Jose Canseco tweeted on Halloween? Was he hammered when he posted this? Sure looks like it! This is the twitter equivalent of drunk texting. Karen Judge....wow.

Did that baseball off of your head do permanent damage? Sure, looks like it. At any rate, Canseco has some interesting advice for Aaron Judge.

Not that I really care but.... who peed in Canseco's cheerios? This guy has a hot take on what a dump is, exactly. I mean, New York may not be perfect, but it is still home to Yankee stadium and both the NEW and old Yankee stadium are a hell of a lot nicer than the real dump he played in when he was with Oakland.

And what about the fans, exactly? Someone needs to remind this guy that he was treated just fine for his short 37 game stay. In fact, he was treated better than what he probably deserved. The game doesn't exactly hold him in high regard. By the way, the Core Four handled New York just fine. In fact, Andy Pettitte came back after 3 years because he missed it so much.

Maybe it's time to look in the mirror and realize it's about character and the way any athlete presents himself and less about how bad you think the fans are. It says more about you and your career than anything else.

Here's a solution for you, if Yankee stadium is such a dump and the fans were so terrible to you in your short stay why not give back that World Series ring you "won"? It's obviously weighing you down and brings back bad memories and you don't deserve the accolades. You are just a sad keyboard warrior now.... we get it.

Talk to text sucks sometimes.... or Jose Canseco is an idiot all of the time? I think the last one is more fitting. But by the way, why would Judge take advice from a guy who cheated? Seriously, time for a dose of reality. Someone who has cheated, lied and deceived MLB, it's teams and fans should probably keep his mouth shut and crawl back into his hole.

Judge doesn't need your advice, Canseco. No one does. I would however like to watch you square off against Aaron Judge. You are 58 and can't even tweet sober let alone hit a softball further than Judge.

Keep being the Keyboard warrior.... it's quite funny.

BOONE DISAPPOINTS IN LAME REACTION TO SOX PUNISHMENT

On Wednesday, the Red Sox received their penalty resulting from the investigation into their sign-stealing during the 2018 season. The punishment was nothing but a slap on the wrist, Rob Manfred explaining that what Boston did was not as bad as what the Houston Astros did in 2017.

After hearing of the punishment, Aaron Boone was asked if the punishment fit the crime.

"I don't know. Who knows exactly what went down," Boone told Meredith Marakovits of YES.. "I do trust that MLB thoroughly investigated and got to the bottom of things as best they can. And (I) feel like if that's what was come up with then so be it. It's time to move on, and I'm glad we're kind of through those situations."
Boone is ready to move on from all this drama, but should he? I mean, if you've read anything about all these cheating investigations its that Major League Baseball didn't do enough.

Bleeding Yankee Blue has been leading the charge with facts and information that just make everyone involved look like a bunch of turds. As fans, as baseball people you really need to fight for what's right here and Boone's response kind of sucks.

Deals should NOT have been made. Punishment of players SHOULD have happened. And while Boone wants to move on, his only reason is because there is literally nothing he or anyone else can do about it.

I mean, what are we gonna do at this point, get Congress involved and see a big dog and pony show like we did when McGwire and Sosa and Canseco were on Capitol Hill denying steroid use? If you remember, it did come out that they all used. What a joke.

It's ridiculous.

The bottom line is Manfred did everything wrong, he clearly didn't want to cross a powerful man like Jim Crane who owns the Asstros, and didn't want to look too deeply into the Red Sox situation because it would just cause too much of a headache for him and taint Major League baseball worse than it already is. Alex Cora is guilty, and only suspending him for the 2020 season makes no sense. Why?

Because baseball isn't happening yet in the 2020 season. So what is he really being punished for? Our BYB chief highlighted that on Twitter yesterday. I mean, what is Cora missing out on if there isn't anything going on?

And why the hell wouldn't MLB reprimand Steve Pearce for just being a bitch and attacking MLB calling the whole thing a joke? (Read HERE.) It's a pretty serious matter. Cheating like this damages the integrity of the game.  He probably needs to shut up.

But let me ask our readership... our BYB fans and freaks... is Boone right? Is it time to move on from all of this and focus on what is ahead?

Comment. Let us know.

FOR A GOOD TIME...

That's the number Morgan Management for Jose Canseco. I'm sure Morgan is thrilled that Jose decided to put their number on Twitter so Jennifer Lopez could call Jose so he could tell her the "truth" about ARod.

No one cares Jose, you are a loser.

The truth is I don't care about Alex Rodriguez and J.Lo getting engaged. Good for them. But what happens next is just immature and stupid. Jose is obviously trying to get noticed, trying to be provocative… I get it. He's irrelevant these days. But he's just inserting himself into things that are no one's business.  I don't care what ARod does.  I do care when people try and bring other people down just for their own benefit.

I also hate disrespect.  I'm no ARod fan, meaning, I really didn't love him as a player even though he was mad talented. I just didn't follow him like others did. I didn't like that he used, but hey, I don't like when anyone uses and cheats... so me not liking ARod is more about the PEDs than anything.

These days the guys reinvented himself and it's water under the bridge.  And that's my point to all of this.  What the hell can Jose Canseco really add? Butt out! Jose is the reason we even started talking about PEDs and changed the entire landscape of the game.  But right now I just want him to go away.

MIKE SCHMIDT HAD SOME EXPLAINING TO DO... AND DID IT

Originally Mike Schmidt disappointed me, but now I'm happy to see that he came clean and walked it back.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, Mike made a sexist remark the other day and had to clean it up after he came under fire.

The Sporting News has the story:

Photo: Sporting News
"Mike Schmidt apologized Monday for sexist remarks he made during a broadcast the previous day. The comment came while Schmidt, currently a weekend analyst on Phillies games, was discussing a tweet from Amanda McCarthy, the wife of injured Braves starter Brandon McCarthy.

The tweet mentioned that the pitcher 'still can’t do the dishes' after separating his shoulder. 'I have a dishwasher at home myself: my wife,' Schmidt said. 'That was bad. Actually, I do the dishes, most of the time.'

'Me Too movement,' Schmidt continued. 'Where does that fit in?' Schmidt said Monday that he 'made a mistake while attempting to be humorous.' 'It was not my intention to offend anyone'...

Schmidt said in a statement (via Westwood One). 'My daughter passionately marches in support of the #MeToo movement in Boston, and I support her in every way. I offer my sincerest apologies to those who may have been offended.'"

I chalk this up as generational.  Back in the day, it was comedy to make fun of women and no one did it better than Henny Youngman.

But here's the thing, Schmidt's not a comedian, and even in comedy, that doesn't fly. It's offensive.  Hell, I came under fire for referring to Jose Canseco and saying something that could have been considered very offensive to women. You can read about it here.

I AM WHAT I AM... BUT THERE'S ALWAYS ROOM FOR CHANGE

I apologized and I too was trying to be provocative and funny. It doesn't work.  It's stupid.  So was this by Schmidt.

Photo: NJ.com
But I love that he came out and tried to fix it. I honestly don't think he meant a thing by it. But people do, and that's why we have to choose our words wisely.

Interesting story, good for Schmidt! He's back in my good graces.

Let's play ball!

I AM WHAT I AM... BUT THERE'S ALWAYS ROOM FOR CHANGE

I'm loud. I swear a lot. I like to be provocative and I have many people in my life that I call friends because of it.  And you know what? They truly are.  And through my years at Bleeding Yankee Blue, I have matured and became a better person getting to know others that I've never met before September 14, 2010 (BYB's birth), because they open my mind to different aspects of what I do, how I present myself and who I am as a person. And you know what? I am a good, honest person that takes tips from all sides, even if I don't agree... even if I recognize what they're trying to say... whatever it may be, I take all of it very seriously, and try to fix what I can control.

Now if you're just clicking on this post today, you have no idea what I'm rambling about. Lucky for you... we keep you in the loop here at BYB.  Read THE COMING TOGETHER THAT IS BYB!... then come right back to this space...

In a nutshell, readers were offended... so were some of my writers, because sometimes the words I use in my world of being provocative hurt people.  That never, ever meant to be my intention.  I never want to hurt anyone.  I take that stuff ultra seriously.  I'm a lover.  That's one thing you gotta know about me.  I have plenty of people in my life that are extremely important to me.  Many of which are you the audience... as well as my writers who, trust me when I tell you, are the greatest gift that I have ever received out of my creation of Bleeding Yankee Blue.  Life long bonds that will never, ever be broken. And I'm speaking of current... and even past writers from this fan site.

But the reality is, in my quest to be read and "real" and have alittle fun... sometimes I get ahead of myself.  You see... I write like I speak, and it's not that I speak to disparage anyone. But what I mean is I speak provocatively with a wise mouth and probably a lot of words my kids aren't allowed to say.  It's who I am.  I don't go calling people bitches, but when it comes to writing, I sometimes feel the need to 'shock'.

But let me be clear... it doesn't make me less intelligent and NO, again, I don't speak badly of ANYONE.  But my point is I let it flow because I like to get a rise out of people. I like to get a snicker, a chuckle.  I once had a woman friend of mine laughing hysterically at me followed by a "I like the way you talk!"  I get a kick out of that.  But now I'm in a much different role. I'm the chief of BYB, a pretty big product. I have responsibilities and after an excellent dialog with Suzie Pinstripe... I thought long and hard about how to refocus my energy on these pages.  That's why I asked her to publish THE COMING TOGETHER THAT IS BYB. That's why I'm here right now explaining my journey.

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry if I used words on this page that you don't like. I mean nothing by it. I don't even think about it that way.  But some do, and I will change the way I write. I will be more careful.

When it comes to those negative or words.... like B or 'whore' (and even speaking of Jose Canseco)... I won't.  You have my word.  The last thing I want to do is turn away my audience... the audience that is made up of mostly women in this New York Yankees fan world.  Seriously, it's wrong... I get it...

And I want to address something else before I leave you with this heavy piece on BYB this Sunday morning.  And it goes out to whitehorse67... a reader, a fan of the site... maybe not of me, but the site.  I saw your comment late last night after Suzie Pinstripe's story release.  I'd like to publish it here because it's part of the point of this.  whitehouse67 wrote:

Now I never told anyone to "pound salt". I did suggest I am who I am. And yes, I also wrote BYB MAY BE ABOUT FAMILY, BUT WE'RE NOT BABYSITTERS . But since then... it's clear, I have learned my lesson, and because the audience is asking and because some of my writers are as well, I will choose my words wisely. I owe that to all of you.  After all, you found BYB... you stayed with us, and me being crude doesn't help keep an audience.

Thanks for this exercise. I will do better.

Do you forgive me?

CANSECO NEEDS TO SHUT HIS FAT WHORE MOUTH....

Photos: Anthony J. Causi; Shannon DeCelle
In football, there has been a lot of talk about the long term effects of concussions. The finding of CTE in former players that have passed away has led to major investigations, as well as, safety precautions and concussion protocol. I believe it might become more of an issue in baseball too.

I'm sure, most of you remember or have seen the many replays of that time Jose Canseco had the baseball bounce off his head and over the wall for a home run.

At the time, it led to laughter and made him the butt of many jokes for years. There probably should have been more concern though. You see, just recently Jose took to Twitter claiming that he could hit a softball further than Aaron Judge could hit a baseball.

Judging by his Twitter, Jose Canseco believes he's still a better slugger than Aaron Judge.

(Mark J. Terrill/AP)
Canseco took shots at the Yankees outfielder on Twitter Thursday night, claiming that even at the age of 53 he still has more power than Judge. At least in terms of hitting a softball.

And that takes me back to that baseball bouncing off of Canseco's head.  Maybe it shook a wire loose.  Maybe this guy needs to be quiet, let a new generation do great things. This is a guy just trying to stay relevant in my opinion. It's pretty much a non-story... yet it sounds like it would be something fun to watch.

Photo: MLB.com
I wonder if during the off season Canseco and Judge would get together and have alittle home in derby.  Money could go to charity... we'd get a few laughs out of it... you know... stuff like that.

Nah.  Probably not.

I DON'T LIKE WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE GAME OF BASEBALL

Since it's professional beginnings in Cincinnati, baseball has seen some changes, yet it's also pretty much stayed the same game over all these years.

Recently though, the game has started to change due to advanced technology. The commissioner insists it's for the better and in some instances I can see how it might be. But in my heart, there are a lot of the proposed changes I just plain hate. MLB.com writes about how Rob Manfred is proud of the new technology side of baseball:

"We've come so far in such a short period of time. We're closer than we've ever been. We're better informed, too. We know how fast the center fielder runs and how hard the shortstop throws. We see the spin on pitches, the break, the everything.

'I think what's important is that you offer our fans alternatives in how they engage with the game,' MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said..."

Look, I can see how some of this can make the game more fun for people to watch. We can learn and know everything about a player and his tendencies instantly. We can learn about the history of the game...everything from the last time a batter for the Yankees had a 3-2 count with 2 outs, the bases loaded and hit a grand slam, to the last time a player came to the plate with his grandmother in the stands and got the game-winning hit.  Crazy stuff... and immediate.

And all of those stats are just fine and dandy because they don't actually effect the game itself. Some are actually fun to learn.  But the thing I really hate, is instant replay and other on-field changes that have been proposed and tried. For me, personally, instant replay has taken some of the fun away from the game. This piece from 2013, in the Huffington Post shows why MLB is making an error with it.

"...Major League Baseball (MLB) will institute limited Instant Replay to decide close plays and the, on the whole, rare missed-calls by its professional umpires. I say Boooo! While all of us want all the calls to be right so the deserving team wins based on its true merit, Instant Replay will ruin practically the last thing in America that isn’t ruled by technology."

I agree. While instant replay might be good in other sports, in my eyes at least, it has no place in baseball. In the long run, there aren't too many plays that really affect the outcome of the game, throughout the season. It's not like football, where 1 game can make or break a season. You can look back in the history of baseball and pretty much count all the controversial calls that might have been overturned or confirmed by instant replay.

As mentioned in that Huffington Post article, there are many things that have occurred that have led to the lore of the game. Leave some stuff for us fans to bitch about with our buddies after the fact. You know what I mean?  In a strange way, the controversy makes us happier and gives us more incentive to cheer or boo and be more involved with the game. Imagine a world without Yogi Berra insisting, until his death, that Jackie Robinson was out!

Photo: Monroe Gallery of Photography
Think about that. Leave the replays for us fans to sit and debate for years to come. Leave the replays so we can laugh as the ball bounces off Jose Canseco's head and over the wall for a home run. It's the game and it is what it is so please just leave it alone.

It's sad. The days of managers like Earl Weaver, Bobby Cox and Billy Martin are gone. Leaving us with iPad-toting and strategic managers that rely on match ups and data to decide what to do just seems so weird to me in this wonderful game.

Just my opinion... what's yours?
