WHY THE YANKEES ARE HUMMING RIGHT NOW

You can usually see when things start to gel for a team and right now my New York Yankees are looking good... real good.  Sometimes you almost don't like to get over confident as a fan, but the bottom line is, if a team is going to win games, you at least want them to beat a division rival.  Beating the Rays feels like Christmas morning and I don't care if it's February or October, it's a big deal.

Ivan Nova made me happy tonight.  8 innings for a starting pitcher is what you want.  Love it. He went 8, allowed 4 hits and only 1 run, he also had 5 strikeouts.  Give me that for 3/4th's of the season and I'll hug you and won't let go...not you... you!

A few nice highlights... then I'm going to rail on Alex Rodriguez... don't worry, I'll be brief.  Mark Texieira and Robinson Cano homered tonight and both Eric Chavez and Nick Swisher had doubles.

Oh and don't forget Rafael Soriano is just rolling right now, collecting yet another save and the Yanks have now won 2 in a row to the Tampa Bay Rays.   For the most part, those are our highlights tonight.  Happy days are here again.

Alex Rodriguez was 0-2 tonight with 1 walk and 1 strikeout.  Can someone please tell me what is going on in Alex Rodriguez's head right now?  Is it personal? Is he over thinking? The strikeouts are ridiculous right now. I feel like in every single game, he K's. I was curious so I looked it up. On average, he has struck out 48 times in 54 games. Obivously a few games he doesn't strike out and others there are multiple K's, but that's 48 times in 201 At Bats.  In contrast, Derek Jeter has struck out just 27 times in 227 At Bats.  For June 6th, that's a lot Alex, get your head straight...turn it around. 

Stop thinking about Kate Hudson or Cameron Diaz or your latest flame Torrie Wilson and start focussing and kick some ass on the field. We need you Alex, we need you. 

OK, I'm done ranting...

Final Score: Yankees 4 - Rays 1. The goal is the winning the series, but let's be honest, I'll take the sweep...Go Yankees!

THE RISE OF ALEX RODRIGUEZ

Alex is coming. He's not back yet, but expect Alex to be back in a week or 2. In case you live under a rock, Alex had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee back on July 11th and is slowly creeping back. The good news? Well, the Yankees have been humming without him, but there is no denying, having a healthy Alex Rodriguez in the Yankees lineup will definitely bring us over the top.

If there is 1 thing I like better than the Wild Card, it's first place in the American League East Division. Alex will help us get there, no question. Yes, it's true, The Yankees are 18-7 without Alex, but that power and defense at 3rd base will be truly helpful. Plus, the good news is we also will have guys like Eduardo Nunez and Eric Chavez hanging around to still contribute. Chavez has an amazing glove, he's a 6 time Gold Glover and can be that late inning replacement if Alex needs to rest his legs. Plus, Chavez has a bat off the bench. And what about Nunez you ask? Well, say Alex needs a day off, Nunez has a bat... and he can run his ass off with that great speed... so I'd say we have it covered.(Photo: Reuters)
Now, MLB.com says Alex is taking swings and taking grounders and he's on the road back. He's also running and throwing. I couldn't be happier. According to MLB:

"Rodriguez is apparently ahead of schedule and experiencing no soreness because he emphasized that he would not begin any program that included batting practice until he felt strong enough to do so."

I believe in Alex, many do, yet, many hate him and like to embarass and humiliate him. Why? That whole ridiculous story about illegal gambling games made me queasy. Luckily, according to the New York Post, MLB will leave Alex alone over the gambling "claim". Good, they should. My only point of that is, if Alex is attending "illegal" gambling games, and you know they are "illegal" gambling games, why aren't you going after the "illegal" game organizers? Why are you going after Alex? Good question right? But I guess because Alex is attached to the story, it's a story. People are continually trying to bring this guy down. Remember Popcorn-gate? Was it really a big deal? Cameron Diaz was trying to feed him popcorn. WHO CARES? I wish someone would feed me popcorn. Remember Alex sunbathing a few years back and the media went nuts making fun of him? Guess what, the dude is confident in himself, he thinks he's a stud, he doesn't care that his shirtless picture was pasted all over the world, it's exactly what he wanted. Bottom line... people sunbath in the summer, so does Alex. I can't stand it. Why can't this guy get a break?Not, not to get off track, but Alex and his rehab is the good news coming out of this post. Alex is coming back, not tomorrow, but soon. If all goes well, the next few days, George King III says Alex could be in minor leagues games, live action, by Friday. Read it HERE. That's the big test... Actual games allows the body to do different things it wouldn't normally do in rehabs. Good, it will be good to welcome Alex back. I can't wait.

A-ROD BENCHES CAMERON DIAZ

It may be no surprise to some by now, but it seems that Alex Rodriguez has broken things off with Cameron Diaz. According to my sources, it would appear that the breakup came as somewhat of a surprise to Diaz, who’s been dating Alex (again) for almost a year. No explanation has been offered by either camp as to why A-Rod called it off . For some reason, though, the breakup seems to be getting much less publicity than the now-infamous “Cameron feeds A-Rod popcorn” photos. Other articles have even been joking about it, but truthfully, I don’t think it’s fair to either Alex or Cameron to do so. Relationships are hard, and I suspect even more difficult to maintain with the schedules that Hollywood/MLB megastars have to deal with.

Reports say that Cameron is feeling “hurt and betrayed” over the split. Friends close to her say that she was very dedicated to her relationship with the Yankees slugger; she met his children, and even moved her home closer to Miami to be near him. One friend of Cameron’s is quoted as saying that she “went overboard” for Alex.

We’ve all seen the photos of the couple canoodling in Mexico, and just about everywhere else they were seen together. We’ve also seen hardcore athlete and in-shape Diaz working out with Alex during Spring Training. It seemed, through photographical accounts that this couple worked hard, played hard, and were very close to one another.

You may remember from an earlier blog I wrote titled WHY THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT CAMERON , I really liked Alex and Cameron as a team. She seemed real, down-to-earth, and supportive of Alex’s career. She’s very different than the “Real Housewives” style of significant other that we’re used to seeing with professional baseball players. She seemed far less distracting and high maintenance as some of the other girlfriends/wives we’ve heard about.Recently, Diaz came under fire from religious leaders and advocates for marriage comments she made about her relationship with Alex, where she indicated that there was no need for marriage in their relationship, and that marriage in an “outdated” institution. This made some headlines last week, and now the couple has ended the relationship. Is there a connection? We don’t know. Neither Cameron nor Alex has commented publically about the split, and because they both seem to be fairly private people, we may never know.

It also seems that Alex seems to be hitting better as of late. I don’t know if there’s a connection there either, but since everyone seemed to give Kate Hudson credit for Alex’s monster stats when he was dating her, it is a point to ponder.Although it’s been made evident that Alex is the one who called off the relationship, let’s not bash him just yet. We can all speculate and assume what the reason was that led him to call it off. The one thing we do know for sure is this; A-Rod likes slim, blonde, and gorgeous women. There will be no shortage of candidates for him to fill Cameron’s spot on the roster. One report I read even suggested that Alex is already collecting phone numbers to fill in the void. But, what about Diaz? I wonder if she’ll remain a Yankees fan after the breakup. As far as I’m concerned, once a fan, always a fan, and this is one Yankee Lady that will always consider her as a part of the family.

WHY THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT CAMERON

Okay, speaking from a woman’s perspective, we’re not always THAT supportive of some of the women that our baseball boys hang out with. It’s not always easy to see the guys on our team being pulled away from what we think should be a top priority: Yankees Baseball. We’ve seen them in the stands, (sometimes) and in pictures with the guys off the field. Some of the arm candy just isn’t up to snuff.

I think we all feel that we went through the public humiliation right along with Alex during his breakup with Madonna, and then later with all the drama of Kate Hudson. Sorry ladies, anyone that makes A-Rod wear a Kabala bracelet is not approved arm candy. As a matter of fact, some of the most devoted Yankee women may have even let you know that, in our own “special” way, had you had to share a restroom with us.

But, let me be the first to say it. Cameron is different. Cameron is every inch of woman, but not the type to freak out if she breaks a nail. She’s no “butch”, but she isn’t sitting there in the stadium wearing $800 sunglasses, dressed to kill like she just walked on the red carpet to get to the game. She’s in jeans, a tee, and eating popcorn like the rest of us. Whoops... sorry my sweet Alex.

Have you seen this girl work out? Cameron is an athlete herself. We’ve seen her shoot hoops, play baseball and run. She’s not pulling Alex around 5th Avenue making him hold her purse while she shops for stilettos and leopard-print garb. She is working out with him on the field during Spring training. And I’m not talking Pilates… I'm talking strength training. Using a tire that looks like she just ripped it off of an 18 wheeler. This is what we like to see. Arm candy that will buff up those Gold-Glove winning arms, not someone who has to put on a show for the rest of the world. She’s there for Alex, helping him, supporting him, and in a way, that means she’s supporting us too.
So to Alex and Cameron, let me give you my sincerest blessing on behalf of myself and my Yankee sisters. But, a word of caution... if the batting average dips, we’ll take it all back!
