ALONSO WAS NEVER A YANKEE, BUT ALWAYS A MET

We're at that point in the offseason, folks. The trades have been made, the big free-agent signings are mostly wrapped up, and now we’ve hit the annual dead zone where reporters and bloggers need to push out content just to keep the clicks rolling. That means we’re going to see a lot of speculation, a lot of "what if" scenarios, and, of course, plenty of nonsense takes that exist just to stir the pot.

As you know, Bleeding Yankee Blue is a Yankees blog first and foremost. But we do love breaking chops with Red Sox fans, and we’ve made it clear over the years that we think Steve Cohen is a bad baseball guy and the Mets are just… well, the Mets. We covered Pete Alonso’s offseason drama pretty well—because, let’s be real, the Mets treated him like garbage. They didn’t want him… until they did. And Alonso, being the loyal guy that he is, just wanted to come back. But the Mets strung him along, and it was pure BS.

Now, in the absence of actual news, here comes a ridiculous article suggesting that the Yankees will "regret" not signing Alonso. Look, I get it—hot takes generate engagement. But this one is just silly.

Shoutout to Zach Pressnell and FanSided for the entertainment. Here’s the quote:

"The most obvious team that will regret not adding Alonso is the Yankees. The Bronx Bombers have put together quite an excellent offseason, but they're missing one key piece. They need a huge bat to help replace Soto and Alonso could have worked to do that. Instead, the Yankees opted to bolt from the Alonso sweepstakes early in free agency, signing Paul Goldschmidt instead. If the Yankees would have known that this would be the price tag attached to the 40-home run slugger, they likely would have remained in pursuit."

First off, if the Yankees really wanted Alonso, they would have made the offer. It’s that simple. You don’t need to wait for the Mets to set the market to realize, “Oh man, we should’ve jumped in on that.” The Yankees never wanted Alonso. He was never in their plans. He wasn’t a fit. End of story.

Alonso is exactly where he should be—wearing orange and blue, embraced by a fanbase that adores him, playing for a front office that, at best, hesitated to commit to him. But let’s be clear: the Yankees never wanted this guy. I don’t even think most Yankee fans wanted him.

It’s a silly article, but hey, that’s the offseason for you. When there’s no actual baseball happening, speculation, opinion, and chaos reign supreme. We just have to ride it out until spring training finally gets here.
