Ladies and gentlemen, the Yankees are finally acknowledging what fans already know. Hicks is useless and no longer needed. His Yankee career .233 BA and outfield "contributions" can and will be replaced. The Yankees are going to put more useful bodies on the field and in the batters box...so we hope. You can read more HERE, and even though this is still only Spring Training I will call it good news. Hopefully it holds true for the regular season also.
Our new Yankee captain Aaron Judge is acting like the leader we expect from a captain. He had previous conversations and told Aaron Boone he would change positions. We saw him work out at first base already, and now he is willing to play left field instead of right field. That's the leader we need. Even if the Yankees didn't want to consider the move, Judge made the suggestion. That's all about putting the team first.
I like the suggestion. If we have a healthy Giancarlo Stanton, and can use him in right field more often and allow us to use Harrison Bader in center and give Judge the more expansive left field that gives the Yankees a much stronger outfield. At this point, any lineup without Hicks is an upgrade. Not to mention that I also want to see more of Bader because he earned the opportunity.
I can only hope that this works and that means we can phase Hicks out somehow. Crazy contract or not, it's not serving the Yankees well and we need to make a change. Only one Aaron benefits this lineup and should remain in it.
