Billy Bean is laughing his ass off. What a disaster!
Ian O'Connor of the New York Post says it best:
"In 14 innings as a Yankee, Montas has surrendered 14 runs and 18 hits. That’s not good. That’s not acceptable. That’s not anything close to what the Yanks traded for.His manager, Aaron Boone, doesn’t believe Montas has been impacted by what he called “jitters,” and doesn’t think there are any lingering effects from the pitcher’s shoulder inflammation. Whatever is going wrong, Boone said, “We’ve got to start getting results, obviously.”
But here's the thing, Boone doesn't really have a say in playing and not playing these guys. I mean sure, when Gallo was finally established as a disaster in the Bronx, he still trotted him out there on occasion just so he can strike out, but it took a long time because the front office wanted to see him hit home runs. But it never happened. Same with Aaron Hicks. The guy is probably the worst player in the league right now, and he's laughing at all of us. Because he clearly doesn't give a shit, he's bad and he knows he still has to get paid.
But this isn't about Hicks OR Gallo. It's about Frankie Montas and how Aaron Boone doesn't have a clue of how to manage when the Yankees are losing.
Montas isn't good. This has been established, so making excuses isn't an answer. Boone's leash needs to be short, with Montas, Hicks, anyone who sucks the life out of the Yankees. It's pretty simple. Trotting losers out there every game to give us another L isn't baseball when we are on the verge of collapse. The manager needs to find a way to win, and guys like Montas may not be the answer.
We are in mid August. We are not the Yankees we thought we were. Trust me, when it's easy and the team's clicking, managers always look like geniuses. But where they earn their reputation and money is when they can navigate when a team is LOSING! And yes, our team is losing big!
Bottom line, Montas gets one more chance in a starter role. If he can't do it, you need to reinvent him and help the Yankees limp to the post season. No 4th chance like we're doing with that bum Hicks. Yes, Donaldson is sucking he life out of this team too, but we got something from him the other night. If we put him in again and he starts sucking, there is no "work through it" mode. Boone needs to navigate.
Pressure in New York is massive. You either have it or you don't. Boone can talk about jitters all he wants when it comes to Montas, but we're talking about a Skipper that had a less than impressive Major League career with 1 highlight... a home run against the Red Sox. That's it. Then he selfishly busted his ankle in an off-season pickup game and we lost him the next year. Think about that. He's not a leader, he's a placeholder for the Yankees front office, and when a team is down, it is a leader (manager) that needs to right the ship. Where is that leader?
We've lost way to much time on bad experiments. Time to strap in.
Is there anyone out there not scratching thier head with the Montgomery trade, for an injured player in return no less. There are two many automatic outs in the Yankee lineup, its an easy lineup to navigate if I a am an opposing pitcher preparing to face the this lineup,I am not scared. And finally, the boss is really missed,he had championship in his eyes, while junior has dollar signs in his eyes.
