CASHMAN'S CRISIS: ARE THE YANKEES BUYERS OR SELLERS?

I've been struggling with what the Yankees future may look like for weeks now. Fact of the matter is, the trade deadline is now one month away and the clock is ticking. The Yankees needs several pieces to really upgrade this team and a small self imposed budget to do it with so I have to ask....could the Yankees be trade deadline sellers instead of buyers?

As a Yankee fan the idea of being sellers instead of buyers is a bad dream but it could be a bad dream come true if the Yankees don't gain a lot of ground and fall further behind in the standings. Brian Cashman talked to the press yesterday before the game and the dreaded question finally came up. Cashman was asked if the Yankees could be a seller at the trade deadline, and this is what he said:

You can read more about it HERE and it's hard to even think about honestly. I know our 2016 sell off didnt turn out badly for us, but I was really hoping to avoid another one. I still want to avoid it but this roster isn't what it needs to be and that is especially true when you look at the price tag behind it.

The Yankees are 7.5 games out of first place and 5 games out of a wild card spot, and while there is still time left and can mathematically earn a spot they have to be consistent and win series. They can't afford to win several games in a row only to go on a losing streak after, which is what we keep seeing.

Brian Cashman has been engaged in the market, but isn't getting much traction yet, Pete Caldera had a nice writeup about it HERE. It's early so teams are probably still accessing their own needs. There aren't many teams in our position with a lot of needs and a small budget to stay under the luxury tax. It may be a while before anything develops....if it is more than just a salary dump.

The Yankees have actually scored some runs over the last two games and I hope it continues. I'm not even going to talk about how Aroldis Chapman blew it again last night because it's far too late for that and I am already cranky. All I know is we can't win games without scoring more runs. Score more runs then your opponent, win series and avoid falling like a stone and selling off the team. It's time to execute, Yankees. No one wants to be a seller.
