The Yankees are doing well. They aren't doing bad by any means. But the way the Twitter world tweets, you'd think we were in the gutter.
Capozzi is right. The Yankees are only 2.5 out of first place this morning. If you look at the standings that's third place, but it's ONLY 2.5 GAMES OUT! Everyone needs to relax.
First off, Gerrit Cole has been the Yankees saving grace. 6-2 record, 1.78 ERA. He's been pumping and dealing and making stuff happen. And if you look at the way this team has been hitting... guys like Gleyber Torres for example, things are good. Sure we all want dozens of homers every game, but they are hitting well.
When it comes to pitching... I mean sure, losing guys like Corey Kluber sucks, but seeing right spots in Deivi Garcia try and shine is a good thing. YES Network writes:
"Garcia, 22, is getting another chance to claim a rotation spot with Corey Kluber sidelined for an extended period.
"I definitely feel very good," Garcia said. "I understand the consistency that I want. I haven't gotten to that point yet, but I feel good. I feel excited for the opportunity, and I am looking forward to it."
So what does this mean? It means the Yanks are doing their best and winning while building their future.
Look at Gio Urshela. This dude turned into a real superstar. We have him for his defense because it's the real deal. But the dude hits too! I love this by

When veterans of the game look at these young players and praise them like that, it means something. Gotta love that.
My one worry, and this can hopefully be worked out... is the injury bug. Look, I love watching
Giancarlo Stanton hit, but the dude gets hurt a lot. And
Aaron Judge is falling into that same category. When they are on, they're on and it's awesome to watch them hit dinger after dinger. But big bodies don't last long in baseball. Big bodies are there for the now, and not for longevity. Weights are great but with weights and supplements means quick muscle buildup and less healing and more hurting. Is it worth it? Is it?
Look. The Yankees are in a great spot. I love what I see from them this season. We are finding ways to get it done. So don't fret... don't get angry when we lose 3-2. Don't write off the season on a 2 game losing streak. It's a long season... and the Yankees are only 2.5 games back! We got this folks... we got this!
Offense overall has been poor. Stanton getting another day off today after his return when all he did yesterday was walk back-and-forth to the dugout after four strikeouts? Seems pretty ridiculous. Since they’ve decided he can’t play the field, he sets whenever they need to DH charge which will be often.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree. What can I add? Nothing. We have a guy here who used to be a plus outfielder. He's now been Molly coddled to the point where he can't even run to first base without getting injured. Pretty sure if AJ Hinch was the manager, not that I would want him to be, but with his mentality Stanton would absolutely be an everyday outfielder.

ReplyDeleteSpot on. Why the heck would you bring in Wilson in that situation? With a man automatically placed on second base no less! I turn off all extra inning games the moment regulation innings are over. I'm not watching whatever Major League baseball is rolling out there for extra innings. Sorry but that's not baseball. That said, Boone certainly makes many bad decisions, from constantly different lineups to pitching decisions. Yikes.

ReplyDeleteThe Yankees are playing a gold glove second baseman at first base. They have Chris Gittens, 27 years old, hovering around .300 in AAA while playing excellent defense.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees keep rolling out Clint Frazier also. Thomas Milone plays a better outfield (and he can play a little center field also) and he's a left-handed contact hitter who is hitting .330+ in AAA.
Yankee decision-making right now is at an all-time low. Next thing we're going to read that they trade Milone & Gittens for someone to replace Wilson.
Not sure what Brian Cashman is doing but I'm not impressed with the roster moves he's made in season. Hard to fault him for going for Kluber this past winter in free agency. It was a risk reward gamble and based on the shoestring budget his boss imposed on him I can't fault him. He also succeeded in locking up DJ LeMahieu.
The Yankees have internal pieces to improve their defense. Pretty sure Gittens & Milone would be absolutely better than Frazier & Odor in terms of offensive impact. You've got a guy who gets on base and you've got a guy who knocks and runs & plays great defense sitting right under your nose yet we are watching Mike Ford waddle out to first base occasionally while most of the time we've got a gold glove second baseman meaning the position.
