CASHMAN IS ONE SMART GUY... SNAGS GARRETT COOPER

It was a move that came out no where, and something that could prove significant, at least for now.

Meet Garrett Cooper, a young first baseman from the Milwaukee Brewers AAA. NJ.com has the info on this young man and how the Yanks made the acquisition:

"The Yankees acquired Brewers Triple-A first baseman Garrett Cooper for lefty reliever Tyler Webb, the team announced Thursday.

While Cooper was assigned to Triple-A Scranton following the move, he could be on his way to the Bronx if he continues to produce in the minors.

Cooper is batting .366 with 17 homers and has driven in 82 runs in 75 games, albeit in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. His batting average leads the league, while his RBIs rank second....

'He's more athletic than you see on paper,' Brewers' farm director Flanagan said. 'He handles first base well defensively. He's a good runner. So he's not just a home-run guy. He hits for average, doubles, hits to all fields.'"

Look, will we see Cooper up in the Bigs? The answer is yes.  The Yanks will check him out in the minors and if they see the need and want, Cooper will be up. Lord knows we've had plenty of trouble at first base these days.

I like this move... I think it's probably better than Austin Romine at first, you know what I mean?
