THEY DID IT FOR JORGE!
It was a big day. No. It was a huge day because it was Jorge Posada day. The Yankees had to win today. Luckily, they did.
To paraphrase the great Matt Dillon in The Outsiders... They did it for Jorge!
Luis Severino was on the mound. He looked pretty great. He went 6 innings, he gave up 3 hits and 1 run. He struck out 6 and ended up getting his first win. He was followed by Adam Warren, Dellin Betances and Andrew Miller. Those guys combined gave up just one more run.
The Yankees scored 6 today and handled the Indians pitching a lot better than they did the night before. In the first, Brett Gardner homered. It was a 2 run shot and Jacoby Ellsbury scored. Then Brian McCann cranked out 1 for a solo shot.
Next, in the second, Jacoby Ellsbury reached on a force attempt, throwing error and Stephen Drew was able to score. Then came Carlos Beltran, who sacrificed home John Ryan Murphy.
In the 8th, it was Murphy who sacrificed home Didi Gregorius. Those are your 6, and Yankeeland was happy. In the end, they did it for Yankeeland yes... but they did it for Jorge on an electric day!
Now, the question... can they do it for Andy tomorrow?
Final: Yankees 6- Indians 2
