SQUEAKING OUT ONE IN BALTIMORE
The Yankees needed to beat Baltimore at least 1 time this weekend. It was a tough one, but they finally did it. Thank God.
Yesterday was a 5-3 victory over the O's and the power inning ended up being the 5th, where the Yankees scored 3.
Adam Warren was on the hill and went 4.2 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs. He struck out 5. Shreve, Wilson and Betances held down the fort after that, not giving up another run all game. Our pen does that well... you gotta applaud that.
The Yankee hits and run scoring went like this:
In the 1st, Mark Teixeira doubled knocking in a run. Tex has been hot all year and you gotta be happy about not only his health, but his hitting. It's a breath of fresh air. Watch, now that I said that, he'll turn an ankle.
Anyway... in the second, Brett Gardner sacrificed home Didi Gregorius.
Then, in the 5th, they broke it open. Garrett Jones walked with the bases loaded. Then John Ryan Murphy Doubled and knocked in Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira.
Just like that, we were on top.
Look, the weekend was not what I expected. I expected the Yankees to take 2 of 3 of the O's. It didn't happen, but as we look at the standings right now, we are still in first... and the Marlins are next.
Final: Yankees 5 - Orioles 3
