NOVA... JUST IN TIME
Like Superman, Ivan Nova came out and stopped the bleeding and saved Yankee fans everywhere. We need this win today. After seeing CC Sabathia cement his future as a 4th or 5th starter last night, it was nice to have a clean slate today and win one.
Nova went 6.2 innings, allowed only 3 hits and 0 runs. He was followed by Bryan Mitchell and Diego Moreno. They gave up the Phillies 2 runs... not Nova.
The Yankees 10 runs were scored like this:
In the second, Jose Pirela reached on a fielders choice, and in the process, there was a throwing error and 2 runs scored, both Chris Young and John Ryan Murphy.
In the 4th, Brett Gardner singled driving in 1. Chase Headley then doubled and Pirela scored. After that, Mark Teixeira singled knocking in 1.
In the 6th, Chris Young singled in Headley.
In the 7th, it was Pirela again, this time doubling, knocking in Didi Gregorius. Next ARod singled knocking in 2. After that, Tex knocked in Headley on a single.
Cole Hamels started for the Phillies. He ended up giving up 5 runs on 5 innings. Not too great, and it makes you think... do the Yankees really want this guy? Remember when we wrote YUP, COLE HAMELS WOULD COME TO THE YANKEES? You gotta wonder if Hamels just had a bad outing, or if this is the new Cole Hamels. Something to think about.
Final: Yankees 10 - Phillies 2
