As fans, we all know that the Yankees are one of the only teams that has a strict uniform policy similar to my son's Catholic School. This uniform policy includes hair length and facial hair. Although the trend around the leagues and in other sports is for guys to don the beard and grow out their hair, for the Yankees it is about being clean shaven and having short hair. This year, the Bombers, lead by veteran Brett Gardner are pushing the envelope just a little bit. That's right, they are growing subtle, but clearly noticeable mustaches. And you know what, the bats have been swinging. Were the Red Sox indeed right about having facial hair?...too soon to tell.
According to NBC HardBall, Brett Gardner, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dellin Betances, Brian McCann and Chase Headley all have staches and they are encouraging Alex Rodriguez to jump on board. "Rodriguez is off to a strong start after his year-long PED suspension, batting .269/.424/.558 with four home runs and 11 RBI over 16 games, but growing a mustache would pretty much clinch the AL Comeback Player of the Year Award for him, no?"
Whether we finally have something to believe in, or just a bunch of hokey guys trying to be different in pinstripes, I like it and whether it's facial hair or just bats waking up, I will take it!
