We all know that Alex Rodriguez is not shy about his appearance. And despite recent reports of off-season obesity, ARod is usually in great shape. Okay, maybe he isn't AT SPRING TRAINING WEIGHT now, but give it two months... he will be. And we know this because Joe Girardi has seen videos.
According to NJ.Com ARod has sent Joe G video of himself working out at third base. I don't know, but there just seems to be something strange about a man sending another man a video of him working out. How do you guys react to another man sending you a video of him all hot and sweaty? Is this kind of thing normal behavior? And what do you even title a message like that? "Getting it in"? "Putting in work"?
"I know he's working extremely hard," said Joe of the videos that show ARod hitting, running and lifting. Joe, you're taking this all in extremely well.
Oh, ARod! I almost never joke on you, but this gave me a bit of a chuckle. It wasn't enough to do your workouts and bring the proof with you to Spring Training? No, of course not! Because what else do I expect of the guy who suns himself in Central Park, or kisses his image for magazines? Geez!
Okay, to be fair, there are several sun bathers at Central Park. And by comparison, ARod is much easier on the eyes. But those people are not ARod, and won't be scrutinized the same way... well, maybe not publicly anyway. And yea, the magazine shoot was just that. The photographer wanted to portray a certain image to his viewer, and he thought "ego maniac" was the right message. Whatever, logistics!
I know that ARod will be coming back after a terrible 2013 season, and having served a year long suspension in 2014. He will have to compete for the job as third baseman. So yea, this includes being in peak physical condition. But you just had to record your videos and send them to Joe? Why does the image of ARod dancing to LMFAO "Sexy And I Know It" immediately come to mind?
"Uh... look at that body! I... I... I... I workout!" Complete with hands behind his head and obscene pelvic gestures. He and Ron Jeremy could have had great fun filming the table top dance scene together. And if you don't know who Ron Jeremy is, you're definitely too young for my suggestive remarks. Where is your mother?
Whatever the mind set was, Joe did not seem to mind it. Maybe it works for their relationship. It's a long way to Spring Training. This way Joe can be satisfied with knowing that ARod has still got it!
