The Alex Rodriguez stuff have been long and torturous. Honestly, fans are just ready to stop hearing about it. Well, rejoice! There seems to be some good news out of all of this.
After ARod's suspension was reduced to 162 games, Joe Tacopina and the rest of the ARod camp would file lawsuits against the MLB, the players union, and Bud Selig. These proceedings would allow him to attend Yankees Spring Training if he chose to do so. As of Friday, February 7th, those lawsuits have voluntarily withdrawn. Yes, you read correctly. VOLUNTARILY. Further, he will not be attending Spring Training.
According to ESPN, MLB released the following statement:
"We have been informed that Alex Rodriguez has reached the prudent decision to end all of the litigation related to the Biogenesis matter. We believe that Mr. Rodriguez's actions show his desire to return the focus to the play of our great game on the field and to all of the positive attributes and actions of his fellow major league players. We share this desire."
I have very mixed emotions about this. On the one hand, I feel like Selig targeted ARod, created a witch hunt, and hung him out to dry with absolutely no noble intentions. Given the facts of the case, including ARod being a first time offender, the suspension does not fit the crime. It's all in the Basic Agreement. On the other hand, I'm glad that he decided to end this. The fact that it was a voluntary move on his part, as opposed to court ordered, is great news to me. He's obviously as tired of the process as the rest of us are.
That's all the latest on ARod. As always, if anything else arises, we'll be here.
