I probably should have mentioned this when it happened about a week ago, but because everyone is busy, I blew it... I dropped the ball, sorry. Forgive me? Yes? No? Whatever...
Gary Sanchez was promoted to the Trenton Thunder. According to the Star Ledger, HERE, "The plans for Sanchez clearly changed, since Yankees vice president of
baseball operations Mark Newman told reporters June 24 in Trenton he did
not think Sanchez would make it to Double-A this season. Sanchez brings a big bat and, like Jesus Montero before him, defensive
skills that will need improvement if his future in the big leagues will
be behind the plate. A Florida State League All Star, Sanchez was
hitting .254 with 13 home runs and 51 RBIs in 93 games with Tampa.
Sanchez also has surprised many scouts by throwing out an impressive 46
percent (39 of 85) of potential base-stealers, up from 30 percent last
season and only a few notches below J.R. Murphy’s impressive 48 percent
rate while at Double-A this season."
A while back, Gary Sanchez had an attitude problem. We wrote about it in WHY SOMEONE NEEDS AN ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT, in June 2011. He was told to go to a position and refused and it was a big to-do. That attitude has since changed and now that he's been promoted, he's one step closer to being a Yankee. It's funny though, reading that quote from the Ledger, it got me thinking about all the Yankees catching that we had and how we had almost too much at one point. Meanwhile, right now we have Chris Stewart and Austin Romine, not the combo I assumed we'd have in 2013. Lately, besides alittle chatter about JR Murphy and Sanchez... there hasn't been a lot of talk about our catching anymore. Maybe we can turn that around.
Right now with Trenton, Sanchez is 7-25. Go Sanchez go!
Anyway, sorry for the late update... forgive me.
