THE ALEX RODRIGUEZ BABY STEPS
Alex Rodriguez took another step in his recovery as he started DH today for the Tampa Yankees. It is likely that there is some concern about his surgically repaired hip after being hit by a pitch on the hip in Saturday’s game. In his post game interview following that game, he admitted that his fielding is probably a couple of weeks behind his hitting. That just emphasizes the point, that the Yankees are being extra cautious with his recovery, choosing to let his fielding fall a little further behind rather than risk re-injuring him.
Regarding his hitting, he had three appearances at the plate, yet failed to get the ball out of the infield. In his first at-bat, which was probably his hardest hit ball, he lined out to the shortstop. He ended the top of the third by popping out to the first baseman in foul territory. In the top of the sixth, with a man on first and no one out, Alex grounded into a 5-4-3 double play. A pinch hitter was brought in for his turn at bat in the top of the ninth.
Despite his batting average continuing to drop, he continues to face live pitching and work on his timing. The most important news is that there is no report of pain, discomfort, or anything adverse with Alex’s recovery plan or hitting.
