HUGHES A SNOOZE & YANKEES LOSE
It's like a Dr. Seuss title. I really don't know what else to say about Phil Hughes. Jack Curry gave him an "incomplete" because he only went 4 innngs, but I say he gets a C- because once again, he gives up the long ball. He did it again tonight to Billy Butler and the Yankees had 9 hits, men on base and only scored 1 run all night. I don't know about you, but I'm thinking that having 9 hits should at least gives you more than 1 run. I mean, the Royals had 10 hits and they scored 5. Bad night all around... and I'm not too happy.
Phil Hughes went 4 innings and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. Again, in fairness to Hughes, there was a rain delay so they didn't run him back out there, but come on... enough with the home runs, man! Now while Adam Warren gave up 1 and Preston Claiborne gave up 2... all the Royals needed was 2 runs tonight. Those 2 came from Phil.
The Yankee runs weren't too much. Lyle Overbay homered in the 7th. Then we snoozed. Seriously. The Yankees let 10 on base. Ducks on the Pond need to come home, fundamental baseball. That's the bottom line.
Final: Royals 5 - Yankees 1.
We'll come back tomorrow and win...we have to.
