BIG NEWS ON THE DEREK JETER FRONT

Tonight there will be light at the end of the tunnel. We have been patient as Yankee fans.  We have realized that baseball players like our Captain Derek Jeter are not Supermen, but instead ballplayers that do in fact get hurt sometimes.  And so, once Jeet came out and said that much more time was needed, we respected it and we waited.  Now... there is some news... and it's big news.

Derek Jeter, according to Dan Norton of the Bergen Record (HERE)  (and several others), will start his rebab assignment in Scranton Wilkes Barre tonight. Norton writes: "Jeter will begin his rehab assignment today at 7 p.m. with Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes Barre. The Yankees’ captain is recovering from a broken ankle.

The timetable of Jeter’s recuperation remains indefinite, but manager Joe Girardi didn’t rule out a return for this homestand.

'I think you can allow yourself to think, but you got to make sure they’re actually here before you pencil them in,' Girardi said. 'I think it depends on how he feels.

How does a guy feel after he plays a couple of days in a row? It’s hard to say.'

Jeter has already dived into baserunning and simulated at-bats, which is why his rehab stint won’t begin lower in the minor leagues. But Cashman said he can’t throw Jeter, or any of the Yankees’ injured players, 'in the deep end of the pool unless they’re physically ready to do it.'"

We love the captain.  We've written about his loyalty to us Yankee fans in JETER, BYB & LOYALTY.
He is our captain, he's given so much and we want to give back our love to him.

We also have speculated about Jeter and his injury.  Suzie Pinstripe recently wrote about her trek to Yankee Stadium and saw something in Jeter she never saw before... possibly defeat, possibly concern that he'd come back a different player. It's a fascinating piece you need to read. Check out JETER'S EYES GIVE "IT" AWAY.

This latest news that Jeter is playing in Scranton tonight is huge, but baby steps.  We hope tonight is big!

One thing I was confused about.  How come Alex Rodriguez started at the Charleston Riverdogs and Jeter is starting in Scranton? Is it a roster thing? Are they trying to hide ARod? What is it? I found that interesting. This is just me thinking out loud.

Anyway... Good Luck tonight Cap! We're all pulling for you.
