DEAR YANKS, MAKE A DEAL WITH CANO

We have been beating the "Sign Robinson Cano" drum for over 2 months here. Now, finally, we have some backing.  Pete Caldera of the Bergen Record has a great piece titled Robinson Cano's next deal will be money well-spent for Yankees. If you want to smile today... read it.

Pete says, "Now would be a perfect time to hammer out that contract for Robinson Cano, the one that will keep him in pinstripes for the next seven or so years.

April already gave us some important answers to what should be an inevitable conclusion – with Cano at a news conference, shaking hands with Hal Steinbrenner as the photographers snap away.

The contract talk and his walk-year status have not negatively impacted his performance. Cano is far and away the spotlight hitter in an injury-depleted lineup, and is batting .319 with a team-leading eight homers and 72 total bases and team-tying 18 RBI."

We have stated 7 years makes sense at well for Cano. Read JOSE CANO: "THE YANKEES WILL SIGN ROBINSON" There is no reason we should even attempt to sign him for 10... I mean, he and Alex Rodriguez are different players totally, and we learned from the ARod deal, or any of these other long term players in baseball... long term deals rarely pan out.

Caldera continues and we're on the same page: "So, what will it take to sign him? My guess is around $200 million over eight years – that’s $25 million per – with whatever added marketing tie-ins or bonus incentives are included.

As Mark Teixeira truthfully stated earlier this year, no player on the career back nine is worth his mega-contract.

The Angels aren’t going to like Albert Pujols’ contract any more than the Yankees like Alex Rodriguez’s deal right now.

But Cano is going to get paid. Why not just pay him now?"

I love Cano right now.  He appears to be a leader on our club.  He's hammering the ball, he's hustling... he's a Yankee.  I hope Caldera's right, I hope we're right...  I hope they nail down a deal.
