IT'S LONELY AT THE BOTTOM

This is a clip from the movie Goonies.  It was the scene when the kids were at the bottom of the well desperately looking for hidden treasure in a way to somehow get the money they needed to save  their homes.  I used this well clip because they, and the Yankees are at the bottom... or, in last place.   The irony is the Goonies slogan is "Never say Die."  I'd love to say the Yankees have the same slogan, but they may have left it in the Bronx.  I'm trying to hold on ladies and gentlemen... but I can't believe what has happened to this club.
I didn't expect much today and I have to say, I was right.  The Yankees are lost in the American League.  Helen Keller can find her way through a game better than this club.

And let's not blame the talent on the field as much as we should blame bonehead decisions and knee jerk reactions to fill holes and get us through another game in April.  It's kind of pathetic.  Sure, I can't run a team, but I do know some things.  You don't bring in a pitcher who hasn't pitched 1 spring training game this season and was on the Disabled List... and you don't sit a player that racks up 200 + hits a season.

Men on base give you more chances to score runs... you don't get men on, try winning hitting solo shots... it ain't happening. Truth be told, that hitting tool in Ichiro doesn't change, even when you're a veteran and sitting Ichiro Suzuki to me was stupider than pitching Phil Hughes, but that's another blog for another time. Whatever the case, this game is in the books and the Yankees lost another.  I'll be over it tomorrow, but not right now.

Hughes pitched mediocre (4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 ER), holding the Tigers to an unearned run in the 5th inning. Then Boone Logan came in. He's the thorn in my side, the guy who stresses me out more than the homeless guy who walks around the subway with the mouse on top of the cat on top of the dog (That's a real thing by the way).

Logan's line ended up being 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R.  David Phelps followed and gave up 2 runs in 2.2 IP and after him was Joba giving up 2 walks and 1 run in 1 inning. By the way, Joba's ERA... 21.60...just putting that out there.

The Yankee offense looked like it was trying but let's face it, the Tigers are overpowering and we look outmatched every time we're out in Comerica.  Vernon Wells cranked out a homer.  Travis Hafner had an RBI single in the 6th and Lyle Overbay knocked in 2 runs with a single in the 6th as well. But that was it... 4 runs to the Tigers 8.

That 8 runs could have been worse if it wasn't for the great defense from Brett Gardner in the 3rd.  If Gardy misses, it's at least 2 more runs.

Highlights are few in Yankeeland lately... wins are fewer. Trust me ladies and gentlemen, it's miserable right now.  You know how I know? Check out Yankees.com, where they have literally struggled post anything really "great" to chat about.  Their editorial crew has become desperate. I found this funny.  They are advertising John Sterling's "new" home run calls as well as the newest trending video today, Brett Gardner's defensive catch.

Unfortunately, I can't get past the standings... I mean, I know it's April, but my God, what has happened to my Yankees?

I'm not happy.

Final today: Tigers 8 - Yankees 4.
