I need to share this because I actually got chills listening to it. An emotional Mariano Rivera just spoke to Jack Curry and he was talking about his "brothers", Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte, and then, coming out of no where, Mariano said, "You know who I miss? I miss the Boss."
Of course, he was talking about George Steinbrenner. It was genuine. Jack followed up, asking what he missed about him most. Mariano said, "His love, passion and determination for the game... The way he treated us... The winning factor for him was everything."
Us Yankee fans throw around the idea of how we wish the "Boss" was still alive a lot and I've said it before... people used to complain about George alot when he was alive, but in the end, Steinbrenner did what he could to give us fans the best team possible. But... there's something very touching and emotional about hearing it directly from a player like Mariano Rivera.
I don't know... maybe it's just me being sentimental today and all... but there's something uplifting about that statement from Mo. George wasn't a bad guy, he was just intense and passionate about the Yankees... like many of us. I loved hearing that from Mariano and wanted to share it.
Kudos to Jack Curry for getting it! Way to go.
