I believe that the Yankees have the best shot at getting Michael Morse. I'm basing this on my gut. This makes sense based on what the Yankees are willing to give up from our farm, as well as their hesitation to tack on payroll as of late. It's in the framework. Plus, couple that with this latest info and you may agree...
Jack Curry of YES Tweets HERE that when the Yanks reached out to the Nationals about Michael Morse, the Nats weren't "ready" to chat. They will chat on a deal at some point.
But that's not all. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox could be the other big team to try and get Morse. Read that HERE. This makes sense considering the Sox still have not nailed down Mike Napoli. Sounds ridiculous, but true. Plus, you have to realize that the Red Sox are out to be competitive this season after a lousy 2012...believe it. Also believe that the Yankees won't sit back and watch the Sox win this one.
One thing is clear to me as a Yankee fan. The Yankees need to make this deal work. This is the piece that Brian Cashman has been waiting for, a right handed bat with power. That's Michael Morse. He can also fill in in the outfield, 1st base and DH when needed. Plus, he will be productive, I like that. And, as Hal Steinbrenner has stated HERE, "We've got some work to do, still. We need another bat. We're not done yet."
Look for movement soon. It just makes sense for the Yankees to pounce on this considering it will be much, much harder to pry guys like Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Upton away from their teams.
Stay tuned... I look forward to the Bronx Beast!
