David Robertson could have dodged the press last night. He clearly threw a beach ball down the middle and that's not only coming from us here at BYB, that's coming from him, suggesting he left the ball up. That came from fans on Twitter and from anyone who watched the replay on ESPN. DRob made a mistake, a few of them and guess what? He admitted it. I love that, it's like closure for me after a tough loss.
David Robertson stood there in front of his locker and told Yankeeland that he let his team down. Not only that, he let the fans down and it's because he said it, for me personally, everything is OK again for me. I believe the Yankees will recover.
Look, as a fan, I was pissed last night. I watched a comeback that needed to happen. I watched guys grind out at-bats, get walks, get on base and then, Ichiro knocked home 2 and suddenly the Yankees were in the game again against the hottest team in baseball right now... the Orioles.
But DRob took the "blame" reigns, he said "it's on me" and damn, you got to respect that. Not only that, let's break this down a moment. The Yankees are tied for 1st place. The Yankees are still in this and the Yankees have plenty of games to win. Bottom line, it won't be easy, but the Yanks still can win the American League East this year... it's not out of the question you know.
I got a good vibe last night; from the attempted comeback and from the Yankees clubhouse after the game. I liked what I saw from the players. They lost, yes, but they were positive even though they were crushed. Is that hard to understand? It's not to me and I'll tell you why... They know that any moment they will wake from their slumber and start kicking ass again and it's all because they came back last night, down from 6-1, tying it up. They believed, and even though they lost, they gained confidence. Sure, it still stings, but the Yankees will win this 4 game series against the Orioles. I believe that.
So DRob, thanks for owning it. All is better again... I just need to get a new TV, I threw a shoe through it, that's all.
