According to USA Today, read HERE, several Boston players expressed their displeasure with good old Bobby V at a meeting in New York with the Red Sox owners, and general manager Ben Cherington. Reports say that Adrian Gonzalez texted the owners after Valentine left Jon Lester in allowing 11 runs. Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia seemed to be the two most vocal players at the meeting. In the meeting the players made it clear they no longer wanted to play for Valentine. No surprise here at BYB, we've been suggesting the Bobby is great for the Yankees because he will literally tear that Sox team apart. Read PROVING BOBBY VALENTINE WRONG where we simply stated back on July 29th when we wrote it: "Valentine has brought in his own hype and more so, he's bought into the hype surrounding him as well. Bobby's arrogance reeks, yet, he's got nothing to be arrogant about. The players on the Red Sox don't like him, and don't want to play for him. How do I know? Watch them play." Way to go BYB... we've nailed it again!
Look, this isn’t the first time that Valentine has found his way into headlines. During spring training, Valentine stated that he hated the Yankees and questioned Derek Jeter’s flip play, read HERE. We all know that was stupid. He then questioned Kevin Youkilis commitment to the game, read HERE... that was dumb as well.
What is most interesting to me are the reports that not all players attended the meeting, suggesting that there is a rift, like we predicted there was, nbut it's not only between the players and Valentine but among each other as well. I would call Valentine did this to himself. He has openly criticized his players and frankly, it’s a bit laughable. Some of the comments he has made are better left inside the clubhouse amongst him and his players. No media involvement. The players have resigned to the fact that he will finish this season with them. Cherington has stated his support of Valentine, although they haven’t made it clear whether or not Valentine would return to the Red Sox next season.
The Red Sox are currently 57- 59, 11 games behind the Yankees and 5 ½ games back in the AL Wild Card race. Their last sub .500 season was in 1997. What did Valentine have to say about all of this? “They still play for me.” Sure Bobby, they did play for you, but do they "PLAY FOR YOU?" Good luck with that.
You may be asking, why am I telling Yankee fans about the Red Sox troubles? It's important... It's important because we need to know when the rivalry has ended... it appears to be 2012...
