GIRARDI'S 500TH VICTORY IS SIGNIFICANT

500 victories as a manager is kind of a big deal. Joe Girardi getting this achievement is exciting (Read HERE) and you have to admire that and respect it. A lot of people hate Joe Girardi. I do not. A lot of people think he over manages at critical times, that he tweaks his pitching alittle too much, or, not enough. I can get on board with that. But that comes with the territory. Managing ain't easy and playing Monday morning quarterback is simple to do, we all do it, but that's not managing. Look, I'm the first person to criticize Joe for a move he made that I didn't agree with, but it's his job, not mine. I believe that Tony Pena needs to hide that binder underneath Rafael Soriano's locker bench. But I also believe that Joe's got a tough gig. Managing the New york Yankees is no picnic. All that being said, I'm happy for him.

According to Wally Matthews piece (HERE), Derek Jeter said it best: "It's a big deal... Winning 500 is like winning 750 in New York. Everything's bigger. He's done a great job since he's been with us and he should be extremely proud of that."

We've written a piece on Joe that was probably lost in the shuffle, but it's in our our archive. It's titled OUR SKIPPER: JOE GIRARDI. It was from July 2011, but it still holds up.

Whether you like Joe or not is irrelevant. This is the New York Yankees we're talking about. We stick together like family...like "team" and we push toward one goal... #28, just like Joe wears on his back every day to remind us all. Congrats Joe, keep it up.
