We need to be concerned about Ivan Nova who has a sprained and bruised right ankle and foot. According to YESnetwork.com Nova may miss his next scheduled start. Yes, the X-Rays were in fact negative but this is no time for one of our top pitchers to go down. Sure, David Phelps can fill in on occasion but we need Nova back. After the game, Nova said that his ankle was swollen and it hurt. When asked about maybe scratching Nova in his next start, Joe was quick to say "That's a possibility...We’ll have to be smart about it and make sure he’s OK." Oh man...here we go.
The next bizarre thing happened when Clay Rapada looked like he was pitching just fine, but then Joe Girardi made a pitching change. Rapada went in the dugout ...OK fine. Then, and I noticed this right away, Rapada was helped down into the clubhouse by 2 guys. What the hell? He actually looked like he limped initially but it was later revealed that he has a viral infection. Weird. I sometimes go to work with a head cold, I don't need help getting to the train, you know what I mean?
The next most devastating injury to me came when Rafael Soriano came into close in place of David Robertson. Now, let me be clear, I have no problem with RaSo closing. But I knew right then that something was wrong with Robertson. It was revealed that DRob has left rib cage soreness he will go for an MRI today. Having Robertson out is a bad thing. Let's hope after a few days he's back to his old self, but you have to worry about this, DRob's been so lights out, we need him.
Finally, Raul Ibanez was hit by pitch on left elbow last night. Girardi said that he believes Ibanez will just be sore. Hopefully that's it. Ibanez has been great for us and we need him, especially now that the Yankees are hitting.
So yeah, some dark days ahead, no question, but the Yankees will continue to grind it out and get to where they need to be...back to world champions, the way all of Yankeeland like it.
