According to the New York Post, it appears that Mariano Rivera met with surgeons who were supposed to confirm his initial diagnosis and then set a date for his ACL surgery. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as expected. Heres' where it gets a little muddy. There seems to be two explanations of the "complications". Here's what we know based on quotes from Mariano's agent and a report from ESPN's Andrew Marchand.
Fernando Cuza, Rivera's agent told the New York Post:
" We ran into complications."
"I am referring to Dr. Ahmad and [Yankees general manager] Brian Cashman for further information."
Andrew Marchand of ESPN.com then reported this morning:
"On Tuesday morning, a high-ranking team official said the complications weren't that serious at this point. The Yankees were still gathering further information and, with any complications related to surgery, it can't be good news."
The last part of Marchand's quote is specualtion so I won't address that. But regardless, something is clearly going on. Let's just hope these "complications" are not serious in anyway. We can only hope and pray that the doctors are being extremely careful in their diagnosis before Rivera goes under the knife. BYB will be keeping a close eye on this development. Any news we get we will bring it straight to you.
